Post, Text, Or Talk Standing In Line?

I stopped waiting in line at the DMV when I discovered you can renew DL online. This year I renewed by phone. Very easy.

I didn't know that you can renew online. What about the photo? What about the written test, you could be cheating? I will have to renew in 2022 when I turn 80 and am nervous about that, may just give up driving at that time. Don't know if they give you a driving test or the fact that I am now deaf will disqualify me (can't hear sirens etc).

They use the same photo you had before. I thought the cutoff age in Texas for renewing online was 72 as last year I tried to renew online and I got the message to come in. I saw you could renew by phone so I tried it and it went through to my amazement. In 10 days I got the license with my old pic on it. Its good until 2025. This is the last time I will renew though as a shoulder injury is making it hard to drive and doctor said its time to cut down on driving.

I'm a chatter. I find people interesting, and can usually find something to compliment a person on which often starts a short little conversation. Plus, I love seeing people's eyes light up when they see that you have noticed something positive about them. Example: On Valentine's morning, I was standing behind a fellow who was buying a huge, quite beautiful bouquet of flowers. I complimented him on his "good eye" for beauty and said to him that unless I was very mistaken, he was quite lucky to have a lady in his life worth such a fantastic gift. He opened right up and said he had been married for 53 years and loved her even more now than then. We then chatted a bit about our Ohio State football team (as I noticed his OSU hat). It made my day, and hopefully made him feel good as well.

Okay, I'm 77, so I guess I could not renew online anyway. Need to check out the website for AZ and find out more. I'm pretty certain I'll give up driving in 3 years when I'm 80, though I'm already sad anticipating the loss of independence when I do give it up.

You are lucky Terry. Here after you turn 70 they make you go in and take the written test and take the eye test again. And they only give you a 4 or 5 year renewal instead of 10. I don't believe the DMV owns up to this but it's been like that with everyone I know. My husband and I both had to go in recently but it turned out OK as I received the best drivers license photo of my life.
