Post the Flag of Your Country

Just a bit curious to see how many of us are from North America...and how many from overseas. I looked on the forum search button but couldn't find a thread like this, so I started this one.

A lot of members do come from the USA, so this could result in a long line of Stars and Stripes flags. But each state also has its own flag, so hopefully some of these will also make an appearance.. Challenge: can we get a member from every state?

The largest flying American flag in the world measures a total of 7,410 square feet and is a hung on a pole that stands over 225 feet in the air. It was initially erected by the Gastonia AMVETS Post 920 in 1999.

The actual flag measures 65 feet tall and 114 feet wide with a total weight of 180 pounds. It can be clearly seen from over 30 miles away.

There are 2 flags larger than this in California, but neither is flown, and there is a larger ‘free-flying’ flag that now hangs over the George Washington Bridge, that was installed in 2013.

The Australian Flag - features the Union Jack comprisng the combination of the flags of England (St George), Scotland (St Andrew) and Ireland (St Patrick) but was created before Eire left the Union.

It has six stars - 5 depicting the Southern Cross that is only visible in the Southern Hemisphere, and a seven pointed star representing the six states plus the Commonwealth, known as the Federation Star

Fun fact about the state flag....Calif is not home to the Brown Bear. I could be wrong, but I don't think it ever was.
The Black Bear, yes. The Brown Bear, no.

I was born in California but not raised there. I was always under the impression the bear on the flag was a now extinct California Grizzly Bear. After reading your fun fact, I had to look it up ... California Grizzly Bear and Flag of California

Grizzlies are bulkier and have longer hair than the bear on the flag. But one of your articles said the one on the flag was modeled after a Grizzly, so I accept that. Still a Brown, though...a subspecies. And maybe the artist trimmed it down and shortened its hair to make it look sleek and more gentle. Don't know why, but way too late for my input.

The Royal Standard represents the Sovereign and the United Kingdom. The Royal Standard is flown when The King is in residence in one of the Royal Palaces, on The King's car on official journeys and on aircraft (when on the ground.)

The proud and ancient battle standard of the Welsh is The Red Dragon (Y Ddraig Goch) and consists of a red dragon, passant (standing with one foot raised,) on a green and white background. As with any ancient symbol, the appearance of the dragon has been adapted and changed over the years, and hence several different variations exist.

The only official flag for Northern Ireland is the Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom; there is no official local flag that represents only Northern Ireland. The flying of various flags in Northern Ireland is a significant sectarian issue, with different communities identifying with different flags. There is a flag known as The Ulster Banner but with the rules on politics, best leave that one out.
