Postings on "Just Breaking News" stories

How many times have these stories changed directions because all info is not really
all there yet?
I read these and watch people here get upset, post emotional responses over info
that has only facts sided to the views/direction the reporters want to swing it.
I think we all know we have a very mixed up news media right now and to take a
first report as the gospel is never accurate. Not just in the USA but other countries as well.

People get upset, worried, angry, and want to vent their beliefs over things that have not been
officially investigated to the truth (if we ever really get the whole truth). For many it's a mental
stress and frustration which is not good for the body or mind.
Most of the time these reports posted are on the edge of Politics and though they may not actually
be of that nature, the comments will eventually jump over the line. Which leads overs to have to have
their say.
Breaking stories should never be taken as the whole truth from the get go. Investigations take time.
Can't we just wait on posting things like this until a final report (if appropriate) has been offered?

I sympathize with your post and understand your concern. You can’t stop people from reacting whether or not all the facts are before them. I believe posters just feel that some item is newsworthy for discussion – whether all the facts have been exposed or not, is irrelevant. People can always follow-up on the story on their own and perhaps get an unbiased opinion on the event. I totally agree that the media skew stories to entice viewership.

Sometimes these days it's hard to recognize the truth.

Please accept that this is not meant to be an opposition to your post. You were sensitive in expressing your thoughts.

News is alarming; people react. I made a short post myself in the thread I believe you're referring to.

I here ya but it’s easier to control which threads we choose to read and participate in than it is to control what other folks choose to post.

That's a wise and beautiful post, @IrishEyes. One thing that bothers me is that not only do some people jump to post before they know all the facts, they don't bother searching out the truth. They read something online, often a quote taken out of context, and take it as gospel truth and start parroting it.

It would help if U.S. journalism were still an actual profession, but IMO it hasn't been one for decades.

Yes, in many cases, the headlines are just clickbait.
The article may be headlined "Science has validated the story of Noah's ark". Then you read the article, and maybe some guy claims to have found a piece of wood on a mountain in Turkey, and couldn't identify the species as being native to the area.

There is so much in the news that is sensationalized and over hyped just to grab the public. IMO, the news should be off limits to gullible people.

My husband, bless his heart, I don't know how he has the patience to do this.
When something is news breaking and it is something covered with a slant to it,
he will watch the reports on it from news casters from both sides, sift out the opinionated
phrases, find the same facts both are giving that match and then wait for the final result.

He has a lot more spare time than I, so whatever he feels best in understanding the truth
is fine with me. He never listens to just one side and their cherry picked quips of what the other is
saying. I admire his method to give each a chance but I sure couldn't sit and listen to all those
opinions no matter who is saying them.

It’s always best to wait until the final report hits the wires.

I was flying from New York to LA in 2001 after 9/11. I followed an American Airlines plane for takeoff. There was a bigger plane (I think it was a JAL 747) in front of the smaller Airbus 300 American Airlines plane. I was in back of him and 2 minutes after he took off I left. We had a great takeoff as we went up and hooked a left turn to the west , but my wife knew I was leaving New York at around 9 a.m. and when she heard on TV “Special Report” that a plane went down in New York at about 9 a.m. she freaked.

She called our special United phone number and the scheduler told her she had received notice that an American Airlines plane crashed shortly after takeoff. After checking, she told my wife that “Your husband is safely in the air and just now entering Ohio.”
