Power outages cause London's Heathrow Airport to close for the day

Wow that something else, I just found out. It would seem a huge electric whammo around that area now and closed for sure
with major power outages. Ugh, good thing things are kind warmer there.

Lots of really weird stuff happening all over!

A better report here in the UK papers
Heathrow Airport is CLOSED for at least 24 hours

Flights set to land at Heathrow are already being diverted, with Flightradar24 saying it would affect at least 1,351 flights to and from Heathrow. 'That doesn’t include any flights that might be canceled or delayed due to aircraft being out of position,'
Incoming flights are being diverted to Ireland & several European airports while others are having to turn round mid air.

I don't think that, the substation will be fixed in one day,
why they only have one electricity supply for such a big
Airport is beyond crazy, especially in the London area, it
could have any number of supplies.

They might get some supplies, for essential services, but
not for all the place, maybe I am wrong, I hope that I am.

Mike.

In the media today....

The shooting may not have started yet, but let me tell you: Britain is already at war with Russia. When I saw the horrific images this morning of black smoke billowing from a critical energy substation linked to Heathrow Airport, I was immediately suspicious.

It may be too early to come to any hard conclusions. But make no mistake: Heathrow is one of our enemies’ juiciest targets.

At least 1,351 flights have been cancelled today and the knock-on effect to the British economy is likely run into the billions - to say nothing of the stress to ordinary passengers and the loss to Britain’s international prestige. Counter-terrorism police are involved in investigating the fire as a 'precautionary measure'.

As an intelligence expert who specialises in Eastern Europe, I know that this fire seems straight out of the Kremlin’s playbook. And considering the precedent for Russian-instigated attacks of this kind across Europe in recent years, I firmly believe security services should treat this as sabotage until proven otherwise.
The fact that a single fire could close Heathrow for at least an entire day suggests to me a well-planned and carefully executed operation. And tellingly, witnesses have reported seeing an ‘explosion’ - something which suggests the involvement of an incendiary device rather than an organic fire resulting, for example, from a loose cable.

Last year, the head of MI5, Ken McCallum, warned that Russia was intent on generating ‘sustained mayhem on British and European streets’. The Kremlin has made good on that promise.

Just look at the arson attack perpetrated against a Ukrainian-owned business in Leyton, east London, last year. Twenty-year-old Dylan Earl from Leicestershire started a blaze that required 60 firefighters to extinguish. He was charged with aggravated arson and assisting a foreign power - in this case Russia - under the National Security Act 2023.

Ever since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in three years ago, it has been increasingly difficult for Moscow’s agents to act on British soil. This is partly because the Russian embassy has a reduced presence but, vitally, because MI5 has significantly ramped up its counter-intelligence operations on Russian assets.
All the clues that Putin is behind the Heathrow fire

I don't want to be at war with anyone... I'm sick of wars....

Setting contingency plans aside why not call in the military. Their engineers have ways to set up temporary or limited infrastructure. Or request those trailer generators which can do entire buildings. They should be able to get a couple of terminals and tower up.

I think we know what to do here..don't you worry about it !...we've never lost a war yet !

Russia has to know that the U.K. is part of NATO. When a country takes on 1 NATO country, they take on all of the NATO countries. Are they really this dumb? I doubt it, but then again, how can we be sure that they aren’t?

Like I always say, wait until the determination has been completed before jumping to conclusions. The media thrives on bad news and sometimes goes overboard just to keep it in the news. It’s their job to print bad news because like Walter Cronkite once said, “Good news does not sell newspapers.”

The only thing the media does by printing suspicious news without facts or receipts is to create social anxiety. I have read so much misinformation in the past 25 years that I skip over headlines if “facts” are not presented. That’s just me being a cop.

Need I remind you who won the Revolutionary War? (Only trying to rattle your chain. Please don’t take offense.) Anyway, you probably have a comeback for my post.

The National Grid has said that Heathrow has been reconnected to power on an 'interim basis' as firefighters today gave a major update on the fire that has shuttered the airport for at least 24 hours.

The substation fire in Hayes involved 25,000 litres of cooling oil igniting, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) has said.

'The network has been reconfigured to restore all customers impacted, including the ability to resupply the parts of Heathrow airport that are connected to North Hyde,' a National Grid spokesperson said.

This is an interim solution while we carry out further work at North Hyde to return the substation and our network to normal operation'.

West London residents have described hearing a 'massive explosion' before flames rose into the air and smoke billowed across the capital's skyline. Around 10% of the substation remains alight.

It came as aerial pictures and footage showed a deserted Heathrow, with the skies over the capital eerily quiet because almost 1,400 flights in and out are cancelled today.

Speaking at the scene of the blaze in Hayes, two miles from Heathrow, London Fire Brigade deputy commissioner Jonathan Smith said: 'The fire involved a transformer comprising of 25,000 litres of cooling oil fully alight. This created a major hazard due to the still live high-voltage equipment and the nature of the oil-fuelled fire.'

Counter terrorism police are now leading the probe into the electrical substation fire amid claims it could be a Russian sabotage attack linked to Vladimir Putin's campaign of disruption.

An experienced electrical engineer today blamed the failure of an 'oil-filled transformer' for the devastating sub-station fire which shut down Heathrow Airport and blamed a 'lack of investment'.

Tom Watters, director of Sanguine Impact Investments, told MailOnline: 'I'm a transmission and distribution engineer having worked all over the world. An oil filled transformer has obviously failed and caused the massive fire.

'This looks like a very old transformer and it's surprising that such an old piece of critical equipment was still in service. I assume a lack of investment is the reason.

surely the disruption of london airport is not a major problem for the rest of the country just an inconvenience?
A big problem are the international flights. Local or regional flights probably easier to divert but how many airports can handle a 747.

We occasionally have loud booms that light up the sky when a fuse blows out at a High Voltage feed line.
Of course, my first belief is Russian Sabotage of perfect reasoning. They said nuff to know. Give Ukes more missiles.
They are expert at kicking the Bear in the teeth. Get ahead, Get even too!

Although, U.S. airlines are no longer flying the 747, (it was replaced with the 777), foreign airlines continues to fly the 747. I flew it for 2 years from Chicago (ORD) to Honolulu (HNL). However, there are a few freight and charter companies in America that still have the 747 in service.

Isn’t Gatwick open??

Exactly. Or did they find Putin's passport? If you don't notice that the Western Military Industrial Complex is planning a war against Russia, I can't help you. The same nonsense in Germany. Many German hospitals are not even capable of serving all of the ordinary patients, but now they must become fit for war.
