As you will remember the guy who I'm helping (in that broken down van) had a car he was using to drive to work and here and there.e Well, it conked out on him and he hoofed it to this place, got a battery and went back only to find it gone. We thought at first state impound.
No, it was a certain tow company known for predatory towing. Our site manager found it, while they'd waive the storage fees, the tow bill was $250!!h While yes, he broke down in a bike lane. It's pretty obvious the towing company was "Looking" for a violation to tow and stick the owner for $$$_
However, since he can't prove he's the owner. He's off the hook for any legal action as there's nothing tying him to the car. So he's now reduced to two wheels and he seems ok with it.
So I recommend that you have a tow company card or number with you to call for towing in case of problems, most others are starting at $100 instead of letting a predatory company tow it.
