I love them both, and that's why we spend the summer in the mountains and the rest of the time in Florida so that we can enjoy the beaches. Best of both worlds.
Prefer Ocean Beaches Or Mountains?

Unfortunately, for many Seniors, money isn’t there to enjoy both. IOW, have two homes.

If I could take the humidity living in Colinas de Luquillo, Puerto Rico again with easy access like we had to balneario de Luquillo, would be my choice.
Lived outside of Vineland N. J. had a 23ft. power boat stored at the marina in Fortescue and tried the beach at Seaside heights N.J. While stationed at Miramar Naval air station the beach close to Miramar a one time visit. Wine and cheese on a blanket on Maui watching the sun go down was OK but none of those compare to Luquillo. Spoiled by shade trees, picnic ability, fresh water showers, a snack bar, $1.00 parking fee for all day and a short walk from the parking lot to a shaded area.
Mountains. A good alternative if access to entertainment, good restaurants, emergency services are there and the cold isn't bothersome. Best of all worlds would be to have a home near the beach & in the mountains & a helicopter landing port at each.

Pros and Cons for both so I remain on the fence and will eventually side with wherever the family ends up. Currently I'm in between the NC Beaches and the Blue Ridge Mountains and quite happy for the easy access to both.
SE Florida Beaches - Born there so have a real connection with clear, clean, light turquoise surf and white sand beaches but would not want to live there now...the culture has changed and hurricanes are getting worse.
Southern California Beaches - Lived a mile from the ocean and loved the culture, the vibe, the health focus, exercise and nutrition, the people, the spiritual connection, easy to make friends, but now it's way too crowded and crazy expensive.
Rocky Mountains - Lived in Denver Colorado, spectacular mountain views, hiked, camped, skied, fished, great weather, no humidity, no mosquitos, little rain, mostly mildish winters with a few pretty snowfalls. People were fun and friendly. Lots of exciting adventures around every corner. But I feel landlocked and miss the beach there.
Blue Ridge Mountains - Lived in Charlottesville Virginia with a beautiful mountain view (not far from Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay). I loved how the mountains changed colors everyday with the sunrises and sunsets. Even their size changed. Some days they looked bigger and closer. The green pasturelands, horse country, mature oaks, gorgeous rivers and streams, the charming college town (UVA), lots of highly educated people, and many wealthy though not at all snobbish. Very down to earth friendly people. But, sadly, in the political news lately.

Oh, I forgot those that live in the desert and love it.
Palm Springs and Las Vegas is a favorite area for some Seniors, as well as Phoenix.
