Preparing for the Freeze

@PamfromTx I've been thinking about animals in this extreme cold also.

I support Furball Farms, a cat rescue in Minnesota that takes in feral and stray cats. Some of the cats have had parts of their ears amputated from frostbite. The dark grey cat they close up is Will and he has ear tips amputated from frostbite. You see a lot of cats on the floor when it's cold because the floors are heated. ❤️

Monday morning.....woke up to 13 degrees here and no running water, water company is out working on the problem, I have stored water so I'm ok there....everyone stay safe and warm.

We have had some stray cats that have been coming up on our front porch to sleep at night for the last month or so. We have a couple of chairs out there with soft cushions and the cats like that.
I started putting out a bit of dog food and then ordered a bag of cat food from Sam’s club, so now I have 30 lbs of food for them.

When the cold was coming this way, I took an Amazon box, put it on its side and made a “cat cave” and put the cushions and cat food in there for the cats to be a little warmer and more secure out of the biting north wind we have been having.
They are munching down the cat food, so I am assuming that they are also making use of the bed and cat cave.

We’ve gone to -27 C a few day ago to -13C today. That‘s about 10 and feels like 0F with the windchill. If it weren’t for the wind, I’d go for a walk. I’m bored with indoor track and mall walking.

They need a drink now and the too, since all sources of water are frozen.

Twin fitted sheet with some weights at the top and windshield wipers at the bottom. Hopefully on I won’t have to do too much scraping on the front tomorrow AM 😊

I hope you do not even have to leave the house if the weather is bad. I can still remember doing that in my working days. We still had to face a frightening drive. If you must go out make sure to put extra water, foods you can eat cold, peanut butter, crackers, cheese, cold cuts etc. Also lots of blankets, flashlights, scrappers and a portable battery charger if you have it. Make sure the gas tank if full. If you don't have a charger you can get one on Amazon for about 100. It has saved me on more than one occasion, summer and winter.

I stay home when the temps keep dropping; like today. I made enough of Olive Garden’s Chicken Gnocchi soup (copycat) to last us a few days in case we lose the electricity like last year. We were blessed as it turned back on within a few hours. e39adc7efff9eef037c83506ff2c5304[1].jpg

We are going to gain a few pounds with this soup though. :p:ROFLMAO:

Ron prepped over the weekend for the cold and snow that was predicted. Covered the outside faucets, salted the concrete around the house, like that.

We got hit hard here in Nashville with over 9” of snow. We don’t have the infrastructure to handle that amount so Nashville pretty much shut down Monday and yesterday.

It’s not much better today because yesterday was sunny but cold (18 degrees F at its highest) so just enough sun to begin melting some of the snow, but it dropped into the negatives overnight and has made it to zero as I type this.

Which means that the slush from yesterday is just ice today, so driving conditions will be bad.
