Preppers for disasters

Absolutely . Nobody, however self sufficient they think they can be, can possibly survive isolated.
We need cooperation, sharing if resources, to survive and thrive. Humans have to pool talents, information and supplies.
Just having food hoarded and guns will be of no use if for instance you get really sick, need an operation etc. We need others.
I put my trust in the authorities and common sense.
I have some doubt about that last line, knowing how little common sense appears to be available....

How far some have fallen! My generation were kids of the World War II generation. Baby Boomers....many of us heard from our fathers what they went through. Some getting drafted out of high school at 18 and off to 'boot camp' where they were taught to be a soldier, sailor, or member of the Army Air Corps Part of that training was how to use a weapon to kill your enemy, so you could live.

This killing was foreign to most of those young men because they grew up in poor homes that could not afford a guns. But as soldiers they had to learn, and they learned well...it was kill or be killed!

Same for for all free countries in WWII...they had to learn to fight to survive! Thank God they did it and did it well...

So as you think about being prepared...keep this in mind. Sometimes being prepared, requires being being prepared to protect yourself and family...

We cannot predict what really might happen.

But, I know some people would be totally unprepared. Those are the people that will get desperate and try to take water and food from others. God forbid that we ever get to this level. But if we do, I am prepared to protect myself and my family from anyone trying to steal from us or hurt us in anyway.
That's fair enough in principle.

My goodness I have looked up what the very wealthy Preppers are doing. It is an eye-opener! Obviously the super rich have got luxury bunkers ready to see out any apocalypse in luxury.
I had no idea, I have got no preparation at all not any money anyway.

they'll have to live in those forever ..not any kind of life IMO... they'd be better off dead.. I mean what would they be living for?..

I do not 'Prep' for a war, civil or international. If that happens it is likely war will last longer than most preppers could survive.

I do prep for disasters like tornado, flood, etc. Short-Term (4-8 wks.) problems that cause one to lose power, possibly clean water, etc. These are survivable without spending thousands of dollars. Some canned foods, and dried beans and rice. Canned water that can last for a long period of time, plus water filters and purification tablets. Small generator and some gas, Flashlights, Radio, candles, lantern, w/fuel, cook stove, first aid kit, blankets, TP, Meds., etc. etc,

It might be a bit gloomy, but I decided a while ago that if something bad were to happen to the world, I've been around long enough.

I'm okay with going.
Me too , as long as it is not too painful! I would rather die quickly then struggle in a post-apocalyptic world.

Of course, basic preparations are wise. If you know a weather event or such is imminent.
But end of world scenarios are an overwhelming prospect.

I am reading a rather cosy apocalypse novel series, the first book is called 'Havoc in Wyoming - Caldwell's Homestead' by Millie Copper. It is about a family of 'preppers' as they seem to be called. I am quite enjoying this story as it will not be graphic or violent.

I must admit, I am English and living in the UK, I am really not at all prepared for any nuclear war or world collapse! Having gone through the covid pandemic I feel a bit more aware how bad things could get. But mainly I wouldn't even know where to start, I couldn't possibly survive if electricity, water and food suddenly stopped. I depend on the government to look after us all.

Is anyone here at all prepared for disaster, do you know people who are really well prepared?
I must say I am loving the first novel of the series especially as I am learning so much. It is intelligent and well written.
The survival information is invaluable, bout homesteads, solar power, rocket mass heaters - so many things I never thought about. The way the story is told through narration from different characters each chapter makes it impact more.
I like this book so much I have bought the whole set for just over £8.00 on Kindle.
