Prescription Not Covered by Insurance

I've started taking my formulary with me to all doctor's appointments. When the doc says "I'd like to start you on _______", I whip out the formulary and look it up. It seems to annoy the heck out of the doctors, but I don't give a........ When you get to the pharmacy and find out it's a $175 drug, then it's a hassle to have to call the doctor's office back and try to get him to prescribe something else. I'd rather head it off at the pass.

I got some free samples from the doctor's office, enough to see how it will work for me.
