President Jimmy Carter, 100 on 10/1/24

US President Jimmy Carter will be 100, on Oct. 1, 2024. He remains in hospice care, and reportedly sleeps most of the time. Would you want to live to be 100, knowing that your physical abilities will diminish?

No. To me sleeping constantly is akin to being comatose. I would rather die doing something I loved and would be remembered for.
 
It would depend on my health. To be as perky and active as Carol Burnett (91), Bob Newhart (94), or Dick Van Dyke (98), sure I'd absolutely want to squeeze out every day that I could learn something new or make someone smile.

But then think of Dick Van Dyke... this clip is from this year! He's 98 and less comatose than many half his age. šŸ˜ There was an embedded notice thingy with the video, so may have to do the "watch on YouTube" thing.

I wouldn't mind sleeping most of the time (sounds particularly good to me today because I got up 2 hrs early).

If he's in hospice now that doesn't sound like he would last until October. It is always so sad to hear about someone who is going to be turning 100 and then they don't make it (like Betty White).
