Pretentiousness of some critics and their followers!

I can certainly sympathise! My daughter and SIL were recently given a gift certificate to a critically highly praised restaurant and ended up paying $ 200.00 for a pretentious small meal. They had to go somewhere else afterward since both were still hungry.
My kids are always gifted with the 'Taster Menu' where very small portions of their signature dishes are presented. I doubt it filled up my son. He can eat a lot!

I'm not a foodie. When my stomach wants to eat, I nuke a frozen whatever. That makes my tummy happy. So, I'm not into those TV cooking shows with Chef X, Chef Y, and Chef Z. Anybody, who can stand near a grill, can call himself, a "Chef". Also, the only true way to know how good a restaurant is you have to eat there.

I started to watch the Menu but had to turn it off- it was a very strange movie-
Then again I started the watch the "War of the Worlds " with Tom Cruise and could not handle it but I finally got through it last year.
I lived in NJ and I recalled my father telling me of the radio version with Orson Wells, that mentioned they had attacked Princeton NJ, not far from where we lived. People actually panicked because they didnt realize this was just a radio show, even though the announcer stated that many times.

But when the original movie came out ,LONG ago, I walked to a local theatre on a beautiful Fall day,, and sat through the whole movie, but then I had to walk back home in the dark! I was so scared!!!

BTW= They said on Fox this AM that ( that is a Congressman said it-forget who ) CIA has spent millions on UFO issues and someone claimed at CIA that they have evidence of some UFOs that crashed.
I hope they have an update on that, but it could just be fake news.

The Congressman also said, 'how can the Gov spend so much on something they say does Not exist'!

I used to get a big kick out of the "fashion critics".

After the Academy Awards, People magazine always had their "Mr. Blackwell" section (I think that was his name), where he critiqued the dresses. You would have two actresses in what would be essentially the same dress and Mr. Blackwell would go on and on about how one's dress was "elegant and timeless and innovative" and then here comes the picture of the other one and it was "tired and overdone and frumpy".

My guess is that he got invited to the after-Oscars party of one and got snubbed by the other, maybe?

I'm afraid "elegance" is a thing of the past and "shock factor" is the new thang for the red carpet. It's always fun watching them, though.
