The living wage isn't a living wage with runaway inflation. So the living wage currently with the new price increases don’t take us back to where we were?

I'm paying 1/3 more for groceries since before the pandemic but it's the cost of gasoline and the increase in utility costs that's killing me and so many others.3 people, as I said I was paying $200.00 a week before Covid. I suspect that the grocery stores are loving increasing prices! Then this is Canada and we are used to paying more but today was ridiculous.
Why is that?this is Canada and we are used to paying more
It's because of sanctions. Saudi Arabia is working with Russia and in the U.S. new oil refineries will never be built due to "green" regulations. We should be energy independent and were for a long time until the green movement got out of control. This would be a time to loosen regulations so people can at least survive. The federal reserve is failing in it's duty to stabilize inflation. That's its primary purpose but it hasn't done that. It doesn't look great from where I'm sitting. Are the fuel prices just because of the war in Ukraine? You'd think the other oil producing countries would increase production.
It is so weird that in the 70s when I was starting out in life there were oil problems and i think over 10% inflation plus 10% unemployment, and now when I retired everything falls apart again. Though at least there isn't a lot of unemployment. When I was running tools before I retired to see if I had enough to retire, almost all the projections were okay, there were just a few that my money would fail before the expected 'end of plan', I'm still hoping this will all resolve, hopefully within a year.
We are paying more for groceries, too. My son told me to try to keep this week's groceries to $50. So I put only things for him in the cart and after he pruned it, it was still $98! He is vegan and gluten-free. After that, he saw the light, except he asked me to take 3 $1.00 candy bars off the list. I did, but before I paid, I put them back on. Our groceries are delivered, and feed 3 adults.I'm paying 1/3 more for groceries since before the pandemic but it's the cost of gasoline and the increase in utility costs that's killing me and so many others.
Do you have no money for groceries (so your son provides what he thinks is appropriate), or are you complaining about your son's unrealistic ideas about what things cost?We are paying more for groceries, too. It's really too bad we didn't get more traction on this goal.Everyone remember when we were all going GREEN ? ..... oil drilling became very unpopular in the US by 2020.
No.Are the fuel prices just because of the war in Ukraine?
But the infrastructure for alternatives doesn't fully exist so reliance on fossil fuels continues. It's really too bad we didn't get more traction on this goal.
Bingo!No.
Remember a couple decades ago the fuel crisis? (as if a shortage)
It was, and remains, arbitrary , controlled by the .................. monopoly? Much bigger than a monopoly - bigger than a cartel even.
Concern for people's welfare is non-existent among the world's rich, except for their own profits/ their own concerns.
Well said. I just knew I had to wait in long lines for gas and that was about it!I would rather go back to the mid 70s, when there was a gas crisis. I was just a teenager with my first car. I sat in those lines and paid those prices. Was the only thing I was aware of or had to worry about. I did not have a clue about what adults were worrying about. Ignorance can be bliss. I wish I still had that little ford pinto.
I wonder if those reserves are being held back for the military? Probably when we send military planes and vehicles to Ukraine, we send fuel, too.Fuel prices have skyrocketed largely due to the Ukraine invasion and because of the oil companies, who refuse to open additional reserves so they can make record profits. This has had a domino affect on the price of goods and services because they are transported and that takes fuel.
From what I understand, producing green fuel is really expensive, ergo, not immediately profitable. It's really too bad we didn't get more traction on this goal.
Great question, and I honestly don't have the answer it.I wonder if those reserves are being held back for the military? Probably when we send military planes and vehicles to Ukraine, we send fuel, too.
There are a lot of reasons for fuel price increases. That doesn't change the fundamental, pressing need for the world's population (especially big polluters like the US) to drastically cut our use of fossil fuels - and the sooner the better. Humanity and most creatures will be in desperate straits before the end of this century if we do not.Fuel prices started rising long before the war in Ukraine. Inflation occurs when there is too much money chasing fewer goods. When the government flooded the economy with all that Covid relief money, then shut down the economy, you’ve got inflation. When oil leases are cancelled and pipelines building ceases, you get higher gas prices, which in turn fuels inflation even more. Yeah, I remember the 70’s.
In our current system, everything comes down to profit. We are such a foolish species. From what I understand, producing green fuel is really expensive, ergo, not immediately profitable.
I am just surprised how much food costs have gone up. I am also surprised by how much gluten-free foods (those that ordinarily have gluten in them) cost.Do you have no money for groceries (so your son provides what he thinks is appropriate), or are you complaining about your son's unrealistic ideas about what things cost?
