Price of repair for vacuum cleaner

Friday, I took a canister vacuum cleaner to be repaired because it didn't have good suction. When I opened it up, the bag had split and there was dust all over the inside. The tech called today and said a bunch of things like he had to take it all apart to clean it and something about belts and filters, but the bottom line was over $200. It's getting to the point that repairs are more costly than buying new things.

That may have been your dust problem all along. Maybe every time you vacuumed you were blowing dust back into the air. Get a new one.
Walmart has a line up of about 12 vacuums and rates them as to suction. They're all under $200 except the Dyson.

Exactly. Some stuff isn’t worth repairing
These days you can buy better things for much less. Dyson vacuums are great 👍

They don't make things to last like they used to and therefore, no one really does those repairs as much. Probably should bite it and get another. I'm not too crazy about the Shark I got but it's OK I guess.

I think it's about 8 to 10 years old. I know I bought it when I was at the other house and use it there for a few years without a problem. It was a bummer trying to use it on the stairs, though. The place where I bought it, Geyser Vacuum in Ballston Spa, has closed, so I took it to Elite Vacuum in Clifton Park.
