The Queen's crown has arrived at Parliament as the monarch missed the State Opening of Parliament for only the third time in her 70-year reign today.

The Imperial State Crown - the greatest symbol of sovereign power and authority - was carried to Westminster in a limousine with Britain's Crown Jeweller. But Her Majesty was forced to stay away due to mobility problems, although it was confirmed she was watching the event on TV from Windsor Castle.

Prince Charles has headed to Parliament after stepping in for his mother at the 11th hour to read the Queen's Speech that will announce 38 of Boris Johnson's new Bills to properly punish eco 'hooligans', capitalise on Brexit and ensure Britons can pay their soaring bills.

In a highly symbolic and historic moment for the British monarchy, the Prince of Wales, who will take on his closest role yet to that of king. He will address the House of Lords this morning after his mother, 96, obeyed doctor's orders to miss the State Opening of Parliament for the first time in 59 years.

The Queen's throne has been brought out but will remain poignantly empty in the House of Lords for only the third time in her extraordinary 70-year reign - and the monarch was said to have been desperate to attend the pomp and ceremony event dating back centuries.

Prince William, who will one day sit on the throne himself, is also attending the State Opening of Parliament for the first time. The two future kings were specifically given power to jointly act on Her Majesty's behalf so that the ceremony could go ahead.

And as her role expanded, Charles' wife the Duchess of Cornwall is by his side at her first state occasion since Her Majesty said Camilla will become queen consort on Charles's ascension to the throne.

Before the heir to the throne's arrival at Parliament, the Yeomen of the Guard, the royal bodyguards, carried out their ceremonial search of the cellars of the Palace of Westminster for explosives - a tradition dating back to Guy Fawkes's gunpowder plot of 1605 where English Catholics failed to blow up the Protestant King James I and Parliament.

Charles' speech has been drawn up by Boris Johnson and his No 10 team as he battles to regain the political initiative after damaging rows over lockdown parties and the heavy losses suffered by the Tories in the local elections and left the Tories trailing Labour in national polls.

The speech will include a new crackdown on 'guerrilla protests' with jail sentences of up to six months and unlimited fines for those who glue themselves to roads or 'lock on' to public transport infrastructure. Legislation to boost energy security is also expected in the package - but so far there has been little sign of new moves on the cost of living, even though Britons are increasingly struggling to cope with inflation soaring towards 10 per cent.

It is very doubtful, that the Queen will abdicate, unless her
health gets really bad.

In her first speech after she was crowned, she said, "I will serve
you to the best of my ability for the rest of my life", so as she is
an honest person, she will carry out her duties till she dies.

I can never remember which brother is in line for being king, or who married who. But one thing I noticed that in most news articles Kate Middleton doesn't have a title. They just say her name. Camila is Duchess of..... Does Kate have a title?

It amazes me that he gets to be "royal" even after indiscreetly cheating on Princess Diana and causing her to be miserable for most of their marriage. Then he married that woman. Ugggh!!

OneEyedDiva, I am afraid that you have been swayed by the stories
in the media of the time.

"That Woman", as you call Camilla, was his one true love, they were
sweethearts when they were young and they wanted to get married,
but, the "Establishment", the people who make the decisions, said "No
we will find a suitable wife for you", they chose Diana, who was "Gentry",
to be the mother of any future King or Queen, this was how it was done
in those days, I don't believe that there was any real love in the marriage,
only duty.

It was later that he and Camilla, married, but of course they have not had
any children, that would have upset the system.

The system changed when Prince William announced that he was going to
marry Kate Middleton, the "Establishment", said no, he said yes and there
was a stand-off. William and Kate were not allowed to see each other for
some time, but in the end he won and they were allowed to meet again.

That was the beginning of the modern era, looking back, all the Queen's
children, except the youngest Edward, were divorced from the wives, who
were chosen by the Establishment, Edward chose his own wife.

So Prince Charles didn't cheat on Diana, it was the other way around, other
people, set the precedent by refusing him his choice, and Diana chose her
way of life, possibly in order to embarrass Charles.

It is a complicated mix-up and most of it is hushed up, we only know what
the media knew, some told it as it was, while others sensationalised it to sell
more content, either in newspapers, or TV, Netflix for example, are writing
their own version of history and a lot of it is fiction, I don't have Netflix, but
their programmes are reviewed regularly in the press.

I hope that this helps to explain things, but I don't really know either.

Mike.
