She is in hospital today after suffering minor injuries to her head and concussion when it is believed she was kicked by a horse at Gatcombe Park.

The King's 73-year-old sister, an Olympic-medal winning horsewoman, was walking on her estate in Gloucestershire yesterday evening when the incident happened.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and Anne was given medical care before being taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for tests, treatment and observation.

She was left with minor wounds to the head, and her medical team are understood to believe these are consistent with a potential impact from a horse's head or legs.

A palace spokesman said Anne was 'recovering well' and in a 'comfortable condition'. Subject to medical advice, she is expected to be able to return home later this week.

It is understood she has suffered concussion and minor injuries to the head, but she is expected to make a full recovery.

A royal spokesman added: 'Her Royal Highness is receiving appropriate expert care. No further details are being shared at this stage.

'Her Royal Highness will remain in Southmead Hospital unless or until her medical team advise otherwise. Sir Tim Laurence accompanied Her Royal Highness to hospital.'

Well she's a tough old bird and after all her life of looking after and riding horses, she must have had quite a few injuries, and not been hospitalzed.. so this must have been quite a bad one.

The king will be beginning to think there's a curse on this family..

I've always been a big fan of Her Royal Highness Princess Ann.

Not only is she an amazing horsewoman, she's always been a loving sister, helpful daughter, and a hard working member of
the firm. " The thousands of hours she's spent working for all her charities makes her my favorite royal.

I hope she recovers completely, concussions are extra serious at her age.

In case anyone is not sure..the lady sitting next to Anne the other day in the carriage is Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones (Chatto)..who is Anne's first cousin, and the only daughter of the late Princess Margaret.. ..she's 60 years old..

I hope she recovers well.
Hazards of the Equestrian life!
yes but she's been a horse rider since she was a baby... she was a n Olympic Silver medallist... she runs a huge stable and show-ground at her home.. she spends any day she's not working with, riding, training..horses... she knows horses better than most jockeys...so she will have had many injuries.

we've seen her be thrown from horses in the past when she was competing.. but never once has she had to be hospitalised.. ..so we can only think whatever happened this time, was quite serious regardless of the palace's statement to the contrary..

I realize I hear things that aren't really valid sometimes... but I'm wondering if she lost consciousness at any time? It sounds strange to me that the reports I'm seeing are saying, "her medical team are understood to believe these are consistent with a potential impact from a horse's head or legs." And when I saw that, I wondered why she wouldn't just *tell* them if a horse kicked her... ???

In any case, I hope this classy lady and perfect example of a princess has a fast recovery.
