Princess in the Tower

I may have mentioned this before on this site, but this was a game I invented when the girls were just toddlers and we were at the park on teeter-totters.

I’d point at one of the girls high up in the air and exclaim, “There’s a Princess in a Tower! I’m going to save her!!”

I’d run fast and happily towards one of my daughters with my arms wide open and just when I got there, she dropped to the ground…and I’d whiff at the air and tumble to the ground.

But this meant my other daughter was high up in the air on the opposite side, so I’d repeat the same thing…run over…she would drop down…and I’d flail at the air again and crash-land into the sand.

Of course the girls thought this game was hysterical! Not to mention the looks I got from other parents at the park.

Aah…I really miss those care-free days when my twins were just toddlers! My daughters just reminded me of this game we used to play tonight around the supper table…I had forgotten all about it.

Lovely game! How fun!

I just love remembering things, games I played with my four kiddos to make them learn and laugh and hopefully remember all the love I felt for them. When Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was popular I would stalk them about the house and play yard, saying "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang coming to get you..." over and over; as they ran away with giggles galore. Then when I caught them I would lay them sideways in my arms roll them up to my chest and kiss their tummies, growling pretending to "eat them up". And I would repeat that I cannot remember how many hundreds of times over the years. I really miss my children.

My great-granddaughters loved the "Lumpy Couch Game".

They'd scrunch up under a blanket on the couch and I'd sit down and lean back on them, wiggling and loudly exclaiming that this was the lumpiest couch I had ever had the displeasure of sitting on.

I'd also speculate that there were some sort of critters living in the cushions...maybe bedbugs or cooties. They'd squeal and laugh. It never got old.

The other game (and we still play it) is the Guess What This Is game.

I get to lie on the couch with my eyes closed (my FAVORITE game) while they bring me objects. I feel it and make some outrageous guesses (to prolong this  wonderful game as long as possible) that keep them squealing.

Meemaw gets a much-deserved rest and the kids are happy. Win-win.
