Problems Reconnecting My VCR/DVD Player to HD Cable Box

Cable TV technician installed a new HDTV cable box, but disconnected my VCR/DVD player & refused to reconnect it saying my VCR/DVD player isn't property of the cable company. The VCR turns on but doesn't respond to it's remote. I'm sitting here with a disconnected cable looking at the back of the new cable box & the VCR but have no idea where this cable goes. Called the cable company & got the same "our service person can't connect anything except company property response. Any tech savvy folks out there who can help me? Thanks.

I want to suggest that you change the thread title to be more specific for VCR/DVD connection help or something like that, and that you include the exact model numbers of the equipment you're asking about. That way we can search online for a diagram/photo/instructions to help with the connection.

I had a similar problem once and got good results calling the manufacturer of the DVD player thing. They helped me over to phone step by step to connect it properly. That one was a Magnavox. I also got similar help from the Roku folks when I started having trouble connecting to Acorn TV through the Roku. Acorn TV didn't help at all, but the Roku folks walked me through what to do. YAY! I was about to throw the thing out the window.

Thanks, Butterfly.......called Sanyo customer service to ask for help. Gave them model & serial numbers for this thing, only to hear because they don't keep instruction manual information in their data base for products older than ten years old, they couldn't help. A friend did get that cable reconnected & the DVD/VCR player turns on, but the menu, display & set-up functions still won't work. We'll keep working on it over the weekend.

I don't have any advice because I'm terrible at things like this. I just wanted to say the cable company is getting worse and worse. Whatever happened to customer service. The experienced cable person could have done this in two minutes. Perhaps it's company policy blah blah but they need to up their customer service and make that policy.

Have you tried looking for the manual online? I've actually found manuals for quite old small appliances, electronics, etc. Try just searching for Sanyo user manuals and then search for your product. It MIGHT work. I get SO frustrated when things don't work right, especially electronic things.

Do you have an input switch on your TV? That's where you can change which machine you're inputting to the TV.

I don't think we had Input choices on our old TV. Then, in order to play a DVD, we had to unplug the satellite box and plug in the dvd player. There is also a A/B Switch box where you leave both machines plugged into it with one going into the TV, so you only have to flip the switch.
