I don't know the model or year. Possibly more than twenty years old. My daughter found it hidden away. It works...we just tried a test batch. Not perfect but still rather tasty. It has a green and red light. No instructions but apparently the red light means add the batter. But how do you know when they're done?

I lifted the lid to check midway and it pulled one apart. Anybody know how it works exactly?

I guess you just have to keep looking at it and when it's brown all over, it should be done.

If ya put enough butter and syrup on it, who cares?

Krusteeze pancake mix with a little oil mixed in makes pretty good waffles.

Put in enough batter so some of it oozes out the sides a little. When that's light brown, the waffle is done. Otherwise it's about 3 minutes.

How do I know? I own one.

edit: ok, my lady friend said it takes about 5 minutes.

My newer Procter Silex has a red and green light. I think the red means it's plugged in and the green that it's reached the right temperature to add the batter.

I had a really old one (1950's) that you would watch for when the steaming stops. That indicates they are done cooking. 5 minutes sounds about right.

I made some ahead to freeze and we'll have them with brunch tomorrow. I love waffles.

One more question...how do you clean it? I mean step by step. What do you NOT use to clean? It has stuff stuck in there and I don't want to scratch anything.

If it gets grungy I use a soft brush and just regular dishsoap. Mine isn't coated with teflon or anything. But normally I just rinse it off with hot water and rub it down with a paper towel, like I've seen my mom do.

Don't use powdered cleanser.

Just for future reference I got a handy hint online...cooking oil. Just put some on the really caked in there parts for a few minutes and it all wipes away easy.
Here pass the dish...happy brunch!

There's another great idea! I used a butter knife around the edge and scratched it. I'll try the paper towels next time.
