A professional football player took away his kids participation trophies because they didn't win anything. Too extreme or kids should learn that not everyone is the same and there are winners & losers.

After looking at the trophies in the pictures yes that is over doing it for a participation award. That being said participating in non mandatory activities should be encouraged. The kids who participated took the time to sign up, practice and participate in something other than their own lives. They learned things like team work, structure, fitness and/or how to push themselves which the coach potato did not.
