Professional Sports People are Refusing the Vaccine

Players and Athletes have the lowest percentage of vaccine uptake
here in the UK, football/soccer is the worst according to the BBC
news, this morning.

The figures are hovering between 49% and 51%, with only one top
team, Wolverhampton at 95% - 100%.

The teams are all having trouble convincing their players to get it
done, but short of punitive measures, they are getting no response,
as most are young, fit people, is it wise of them to object to being
vaccinated?

Should they be severely sanctioned, or does it not really matter?

Some teams make them isolate and train on their own, but still they
are refusing.

Some athletes are also refusing, but the figures there are obscure
and the reports have no proof.

Mike.

I know most young male tennis players are refusing. Many have had and survived covid so shouldn't antibodies count? A couple of older male tennis players have been vaccinated. They are at the end of their careers and have less to lose if they get a bad side effect than the younger guys would. The young have their whole careers ahead of them. It's a lot to risk.

They are mostly young, less likely to get sick. Also, in some sports and games, each player practices social distancing anyway. In baseball, only the home plate has 3 men together. Soccer and hockey the same. Tennis, golf very distant. Basketball is close contact, and some football games, tackling. The bench and dugouts may be close contact.
They dont wear masks either. When they start getting sick, they will get vaccinated.

The Australian tennis association has given players a hard choice going into this years Aussie Open. Get vaccinated or you can't play. They won't cancel the event which would diminish concerns of unvaccinated tennis players spreading germs all over everything and they won't play the event without fans this year because they did that last year AND THEY LOST TOO MUCH MONEY!

Of course this is and always has been about money and not about anyone's health. I hope the ATP top 20 players tell the Aussie O what they can do with this mandate. How many will watch the event without them there? Twenty something males have an increased risk of developing myocarditis from the vaccine and that could threaten their entire career.

34 year old French tennis player, Jeremy Chardy, was recently vaccinated and says he is so ill he can't even practice or train anymore. He may have to retire because of the effects from the vaccine, but he is 34 which is old for tennis. It's still sad though.
