Pub

How often does everyone go to the pub these days? With age and the expense of it I don't usually go there more than once a month now. The atmosphere has changed somewhat too, I don't enjoy it any where near as much as I did say ten years ago.

Haha, I haven't been to a pub for far too long. There is a little family restaurant that I go to that serves alcohol and every Saturday a few seniors and myself meet up and have a pint or two, but it's far from a pub and closer to a restaurant.

We live just a few blocks away from some wonderful irish pubs. More often we go to the pub for lunch these days, but, one of the downtown pubs here is the preferred hangout for my sailing friends. Nothing beats a good pub with a good atmosphere.

I haven't gone to a pub in many years now, it is normally filled with load music and people who look barely old enough to drink, the atmosphere is completely different and I do not enjoy it anymore

I dunno, I don't usually derive joy from going to the pub, unless it's with friends. It's just boring going by myself. It may not be socially acceptable, but otherwise, I'd just rather drink at home. It's rather loud in those places.

I like to meet my old friends down at the local pub as it is a bit of a tradition for us. We are regulars there and have been for awhile so it is a really warm atmosphere. We have been fortunate enough that the pub has not changed hands since we started going so it is always our same old little getaway for our once a week tradition.

A good pub is increasingly harder to come by. More often it is about the people and not the place. Prioritise who you are going with over where you are going!

I have a group of friends and we meet up at a local pub twice a week. Too expensive to go more often than that!

We go every Saturday I can't have a drink during the week as a early rise to go to work so we go out on a Saturday with friends have a meal and a few drinks .:)

If there were pubs here that had people just visiting and enjoying themselves WITHOUT the loud music so blaring one has to shout to be heard..I would go. But there isn't. Kills my ears.

Kaya, here we have what we call ice houses. When they open for the day, two or three sides of the building opens up to the outside. I can remember my parents going to them, even after church. The kids where outside playing, but in full view of some adults. You could get beer, but they sold as much soda as beer, if not more. Most ice houses are now gone, but we still have some around the parameter of the city. Mainly it was the same people all time. They were like meeting points in the general areas.:beerandwhistle:

I go a couple of times a week...just got back from having lunch in the village pub garden on this beautiful hot sunny day

I only have a soft drink when I go, but I love the atmosphere and meeting up with friends, and almost always have lunch there on a Sunday..:cheers1:

We call those places bars where I come from.
I have always enjoyed stopping in, have some bar snacks (like bloomin' onions) and about 2 drinks.
I don't care for beer. I like Peachtree Peach schnapps over a tall glass of ice. It tastes like liquid peaches.
I also like amaretto & 7-up. Yeah, I have a sweet tooth.
I've never liked staying long in a bar. I get restless after my 2 drinks.
I'm not one who can park their behind on a bar stool for hour after hour.
I rarely go out for drinks. It's not something that occurs to me as an activity to go & do.
Usually I go when someone else suggests it.

You learn something every day we have ice houses here but only for the very rich and they were sometimes dug into the ground or under neath the ground just to keep ice in and are long gone now

Only bars around here are sleaze bars. Honkytonks. Juke box is always cranked so loud the walls vibrate. And they smell. No thanks.

About three years ago,our son got a bartending job in a local bar and grill. Nice place. He had been layed off from his swimming pool company when his bos closed it down during the recession. His boss actually had a job there as a DJ and suggested him for the bartending job. So we started hanging out there every Friday and Sat. night. Didn`t drink a ton, just a couple of glasses of wine usually. Then our daughter and her husband and friends started coming in too-it was always lots of fun. But then the guy down the street came in and stole our son away from the place to manage his bar/restaurant so we stopped going as much. Now we hardly ever go.

What a shame.

I have never been to a pub just for a drink in my life. We occasionally have a meal in one, but it has to be of good quality, and definitely not rowdy.

Sydney has a lot of pubs but they are now full of poker machines. Before these, they were venues for local musicians and many a famous rock back started out playing the pub scene. A lot of the city/inner suburban pubs have become gentrified.

A notorious pub near me (The Fathers' Day bikie massacre 1984) has been gentrified and is now a very popular venue for breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening trade. In this one the poker machines are separated from the dining areas which makes dining a lot more pleasant. http://www.millhotel.com.au/home

Sydney also has a culture of licenced clubs. I belong to two but it is easy to visit any of them for a meal or entertainment. One of mine has a large gymnasium that is always busy. http://www.rwc.org.au/
