puffball fungi in the rain

Rain triggered an asexual spore spree among puffball fungi. They reproduce by secreting spores from their “gills,” so when there’s a slight movement from rain or wind, they get dispersed around the immediate area.

very short kind of cool clip:

I've got big problem with fungi on my lawn this year. I'm allergic to the smell, so must seek effective way to fight it.

Maybe try dissolving two aspirins in a quart of water and using it as a foliar spray.

Call those puffbals?

THAT's a puffball!

Laurie. When I was a youngin, my grandfather tore down the old goat barn, and under old piles of goat crap, was a giant puff ball. After cleaning it off, he actually cut it up and fried it and the family enjoyed it. The family, not me. Ugh.....

I read that they are edible Pappy. Yeah I'd have passed on that puff ball too after seeing it come out from under old goat crap *grin*

Not just edible but delicious.

The one in the picture was shared among family and friends for breakfast.
