Putin announces peace in the Ukraine!

It seems that all concerned have agreed to stop the fighting on Sunday, but can we trust Putin to abide by the plan and control the action in Ukraine? Methinks this is just a ploy to stop the US from sending military hardware to the area and, like Hitler, he is just biding his time and will cause more trouble at a future date. Do you agree with me or am I just being too cynical?

Are you serious? Putin has been the only one pretty much who has been uttering conciliatory words throughout! The US is continually sanctioning, demonizing and bedevilling and Poroshenko is sending Ukrainian military and blasting towns and villages of innocent civilians and then lying about the whole thing. For example at the latest big meeting in Munich where Poroshenko displayed (Russian passports?) as proof that Russia has sent troops into Ukraine, he failed to acknowledge that Russian soldiers give up their passports when they are 'working' and are given a specific military documentation. So where did the passports come from? Wasn't from troops that Putin sent in.

So along with America's insistence that major troops are being sent in by Russia which have come with no proof, no satellite imaging, nothing, Poroshenko is also lying about Russia sending in troops and the passports he waved around absolutely didn't prove his accusations, only that he's a liar.

Another thing to wonder is why there has been no radar images or satellite imaging coming from either the US or Ukraine regarding MH17. What's more, where is the audio from that planes black box? The investigators have the boxes and yet we hear absolutely nothing about what those pilots said just prior to whatever impact it was that brought them down. And then there's also the disappearance of the Ukraine air traffic controller who initially suggested that a Ukrainian fighter jet was with that jet just prior to it coming down. So many mysteries and no proof from the accusers, just accusations and suspicion all levelled at the one country who's been non-aggressive throughout.

I definitely don't agree with you and it's based on reading one biography, an auto-biography and numerous speeches that both Putin and Lavrov have made and a great many news reports from outside observers. You only have to look at the last twenty years in the region to see how the US is working to encircle Russia. How many of those 'satellite' countries now have NATO bases in them. What would the US's feeling be if some larger and aggressive country destabilized Canada and then proceeded to set up their military bases just across the border from America, all the while uttering threats? Would you be inclined ignore it or would it be a cause of great consternation and concern? Put yourselves in Russia's place for just a second in an effort to understand their fears. America doesn't exactly have the most peaceful reputation.

You must think Putin and the Russian government are idiots that would be willing to go head to head with an imperialist government whose military budgets is double Russia's. Russia desires to protect Russia and Russian sovereignty in their own country and they wish to do business within the framework of respect and international law.

Goodness QS, We live in a global village. You got to care when the bully down the street starts hassling his neighbors.

I do... But it appears he is stopping. So long as he behaves himself... it's all good... whether or not the rebels keep some or all of the real estate is not a worry of mine. Besides.. who feels they can trust Putin? So.. I'll believe this is "peace" when I see it. I tend to agree with Ralphy.... It's a ploy.

I think Putin wants to take a "break" until the price of oil rebounds a bit. Oil exports are about the Only form of income Russia gets, and supporting military adventures is expensive.

I just gotta ask.....all this animosity towards a country/President who hasn't actually done anything.....how about the countries that the US has threatened/invaded/bombed/destabilized, etc? Any thoughts on that kind of behaviour?

Well perhaps if everyone quit writing statements that have little basis in fact and which are just 'opinions' based on the latest CNN/Fox propaganda, I wouldn't have anything to respond to with the 'other side'. Remember, Freedom of Speech and everyone is entitled to a different opinion?

One day I may be proven wrong in my opinions on the issue of Putin and Ukraine and all the other crap going on over in that region. If that happens, then I'll admit it and rethink my position, but til then.....no sacred cows. How many here are willing to say that?
