Putin has arrest warrant issued.

What do we know about the Ukrainian children taken by Russia?

The court’s pre-trial judges said there were “reasonable grounds to believe that each suspect bears responsibility for the war crime of unlawful deportation of population, and that of unlawful transfer of population from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, in prejudice of Ukrainian children”. The judges said they had chosen to unseal the names of the suspects in an effort to prevent further crimes.

Reports first emerged last spring that Ukrainian children in occupied territory were being taken to Russia, and even being adopted by Russian families. Russia has presented its actions as a humanitarian mission to save Ukrainian children from the war. But Ukraine has accused Russia of genocide and described its actions as a war crime.

Who are the children involved?

The alleged abductees include children taken from Ukrainian state institutions in the occupied areas, children whose parents had sent them to Russian-run “summer camps” from which they never returned, children whose parents were arrested by the Russian occupying authorities, and children who were orphaned by the fighting.

It is highly unlikely that much will come of the move - the ICC has no powers to arrest suspects, and can only exercise jurisdiction within its member countries - and Russia is not one of them. [emphasis added]
Neither is the USA, China, India, Saudi Arabia, and several dozen more.

31 cases before this court has result in 5 convictions, with prison sentences. 8 have resulted in acquittals, or charges being dropped. Which leaves 18 cases, with some going back to 2005.

An awful lot of hysteria over something that would never take place. Besides... Putin still has a nuclear button and trying to slip on the handcuffs, might get the button pushed.

Once he is removed from power, then maybe. But, getting him out of power without getting that button pushed... would be tricky, imho.

I doubt that he will ever go to trail. None the less, the warrant has a chilling effect that is useful in molding public opinion, or call it propaganda. But being propaganda does not mean it is undesirable. I wasn't sure about this so I just looked it up. Propaganda is just information and claims used to sway people's minds. It is not necessarily false or misleading.

And war criminals have been tried and convicted before. Many escaped but some were caught. I believe there is enough evidence to honestly convict Putin, should they ever get their hands on him, which is unlikely.

Will this lead to world war 3? Especially with the China meeting in Russia??
They've started over less, but it seems rather silly to start a world war because of a failed invasion. No one started a world war over Russia or the US invading Afghanistan, or the US into Iraq, or Israel expanding its territory in Palestine. OK Hitler started a world war, but his goal was obviously world domination, and he was progressing rather rapidly in that quest, so other countries eventually got involved, while Russia can't even make it to second base in Ukraine. But predicting global politics is never on solid ground.

Makes sense @JustDave, But the way the world is going today, it will only take one of the many kooks in today's world to push THE button...

yes ..like what tho ?
Like his insiders who are itching to take over, his people getting too embarrassed to stand it, his opposition getting bolder, the countries he still holds influence over getting tired of his crap....

If you think like a Russian, that is, that your country and your president are the greatest, most flawless, most perfect and powerful things on earth, then you're going to react to an accusation of war crimes. Some will think it's just more western-NATO insanity, but everyone who has access to information outside Russia will want this to go away because it makes Russia and Russians look bad. They'll want Putin out.

As usual, Putin will either give another same ol'-same ol' speech -sweet-talk to the people, hate to the west- or he'll just ignore the whole thing like it's a mirage. At least 50% of the Russian people know these speeches are BS, especially his most recent ones, 30% don't know what's happening anyway and won't believe it when the other 20% try to explain it to them. That 20% (or so) have access to the WWW. Plus, you have the mobilization evaders who have access to the WWW and keep in touch with their families in Russia.

When talking about removing Putin, one should be careful what you wish for. If Putin was gone, you could very well end up with Nickolai Patrushev, who is his right hand man and is even more barbaric than Putin.

"Patrushev is the most influential person in the Kremlin bureaucracy and is the only person Putin trusts — to the extent he trusts anyone. The two share more than a strong professional relationship. They are friends. Both Putin and Patrushev come from the same stock of Chekists, the term that refers to Soviet and Russian intelligence services known by the Russian acronym ChK, the powerful secret police agency in the USSR. Chekists view themselves as elite warriors, dedicated to protecting the fatherland from its enemies."
