Putting things off until it's too late

I think I have a habit of just accepting things as they are. That can be good and maybe not so good. I've been wanting to go fishing for years, but no one I know enjoys fishing or wants to go, so I just don't go. Today I'm thinking the day will come when I can't go & I'll regret not going even if it means going alone. I think I'll look back & kick myself for just accepting that no one wants to go & giving up on the idea. I think I'll make some plans today for a fishing picnic by myself .

Do you live in an area that's big enough to have Meet-Up groups? That might be a place to look for fishing companions. Or let your friends know that you wish you had a fishing partner. By the time we get old enough that other women don't see us as threats, they might "let" their husbands take you along. And...their husbands just might have single friends who like to fish. You just never know...

When my dad was sick and bedridden before he died, I can't tell you how many times he mentioned that he wished he'd gone fishing while he still could.

I'll look for a meetup group that goes fishing. That's a good idea, thanks. Yep..that memory of your dad wishing he'd gone...I was thinking I might end up doing that and having regrets :(

I know exactly what you are talking about,BlunderWoman. I love metal detecting and I use to go with my cousin all the time. He can't get out much anymore, health reasons. So now I sit around thinking how I wish I could do it again. After reading these posts, I think, this spring, I will get in my car and head for the lake and parks where I use to go. So get your fishing rod ready and I will look forward to seeing a photo of the big fish you caught. Good luck!!

Ruth, maybe your metal detecting will detect a new friend! Same goes for you, Blunder. You just might find a fishing buddy while sitting on a pier or a lakeshore.

You just reminded me.. when my kids were younger I used to take them to dry river/creek beds and look for fossils. I miss doing that too! Have fun metal detecting. Let us know if you find anything really cool :)

I certainly will,Blunder. Lets enjoy ourselves doing all the fun things we want to do. Life is to short to wait.

Blunder, check out the "Here lies" thread for my post there. Go fishing!

Ruth, maybe you'll detect a piece of jewelry so valuable that you will be financially set forfreakingever and can go to the South of France (or wherever else you please).

I've never been into fishing. Went a couple of times with cousins. Caught a Sand Shark once. Interesting rough skin.
From what I've seen though, fisherman seem to go alone a lot and socialize together at the fishing spots. Yeah. Whatever your passion, don't wait! The "Golden Years" are really only gold plated. Enjoy them early. The veneer wears off quick enough.

I'd rather be poked in the eye with a sharpened fishing rod end than go fishing. Actually, it's not so much the fishing I object to, it's the sitting out in the sun for hours, repeatedly baiting a hook, casting, reeling in and then starting all over again. And the end result is usually something you wouldn't want to eat anyway.

I do my fishing at Lombardi's Fish Market.....I wave a $20 bill over the counter and something delicious strikes EVERY TIME. In between the time it leaves the water and I take it home with me, it somehow manages to get itself scaled, gutted and fileted. Win-Win!!!

That sounds great, BW! Maybe you'll meet someone there who's in the same situation...a new fishing buddy!

That would be really neat, but knowing how stupid I am sometimes, I probably would throw the jewelry back in the sand thinking it was tin. One time I found a very, very, small diamond earring sort of the size they use for a baby. Anyway, I am absolutely sure it was a diamond, even the setting looked expensive. But I threw it back in the sand. In my mind I thought, what am I going to do with just one earring? When I told my husband,he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Then I realized that one earring could have been worth quite a bit. How dumb can you get????
