I once almost got caught up in a pyramid scheme selling automobile engine additive products in the 80s. The products were called and supposedly marketed by Steed Oil and Engine Additives Inc The idea was to recruit new members via advertisement and word of mouth to attend three day information seminar for $50.00. Attendees were guaranteed full refund if not completely satisfied, of course the objective is convincing the audience Steed Oil and Engine Additives are the greatest thing in the world and with a little hard work and dedication YOU can be rich.
By the third day everyone was hopped up and high in anticipation of being incredibly wealthy. In an act of skillfully induced peer pressure one by one everyone gave up their right for a full refund via testimony of how great and wonderful Steed oil and Engine Products truly were in addition to commissioning great quantities to introduce and market at local gas stations and automobile repair garages.
The problem was Steed oil and engine additives was a hoax. My friend who introduced me to Steed invested in the products to learn gas stations and garages did not want to sell the product so he ended up with everything all of his investment tied up in steed products.
