Quaker Oats Cereal Premium

Did you know - Quaker Oats sponsored the popular kids show "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon". Purchasers of a box of cereal received a deed to one square inch of land in the Yukon Territory. Beginning in January, 1954, the advertising gimmick sold over 21 million boxes of Quaker Oats products.

Sure, I remember that promotion, although all the deeds I accumulated have long since vanished. I do still have a genuine brass police whistle with Sgt. Preston's signature engraved on it. Can't remember how many boxtops it took me to get that treasure. On King!

For fun, did a quick calculate.

21,000,000 inches = 3.347873 acres. That's a funny gimmick.

When I was a kid, my dad sent me to the store to get a pack of cigarettes, but I thought one square inch of Alaska was a better buy. He didn't. ☹️ I thought that maybe you could go to Alaska and see your 1 square inch. Turns out, it was a total scam.
