Quality of sleep? How is yours, usually?

Do you wake up often at night?

Is your sleep usually dreamless?

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a refreshing, childlike period of refreshment, how do you rate yours?

Last night stayed up till 10 pm as a resident was taking his last items he had, but didn't trust him to not steal at the end.

Then awake at 4:45 am and went back to sleep till 7 am. I've had mornings I awoke at 2:30 am. Went for coffee, pastry and a 45 min drive. Then came back and slept.

Really depends on how I'm feeling. Some dreams are very strange, some very pleasing, but not many are memorable.

Oh. Rating wise 6.5

Sore subject. Okay, I haven't had a good sleep (no joke) for about 15 years. I do not have trouble falling asleep... that's really fast. But no matter what time I turn in, my eyes pop open between 1:30 and 2-2:30 and that's the end of sleep until the next night. I don't know what it would be like to get more than 5 hours. I don't want to take prescription meds for it because I don't like being oblivious. Melatonin makes it worse and gives me nightmares. Dreams... usually none at all thankfully. Umm.. childlike period of refreshment? You jest. I'd have to rate me a 2 only because I *do* get those 4 or 5 hours.

I am very interested in maximizing the benefit of sleep, so I try to keep my activity-eating-exercizing-bedtime habits as regular as possible. I monitor my sleep patterns with my Fitbit.
Here is a screenshot of last night's sleep(Note: my Deep Sleep is below the desired 13%, I wish I could "hack" that to improve the benefit):

Go to bed start sleep) about 10:30-11.

Awake 2-4 times per night, not always to urinate.

Awaken for the next day 4:30-6.

Multiple dreams per night, memorable, at each awakening. Very vivid.

Always, always dreams.

Always.

Wow. Sorry. If it's been 15 years I assume you've tried everything.
The only advice I would share is stop fighting it. When you wake up, get up, do some things. Don't worry about it. Later sit back with a book, or tablet and you may go back to sleep.
They do something like this in Sweden.

That's great!

What model of Fitbit?

I read when I wake up. I can feel the possibility of sleep coming on and it does, for maybe 2-3 more hours.

Works for me, and I think it's as good as it ever will be anymore.

Sleep meds **only** help you to fall asleep, no medication will keep you asleep unless you have an anesthesiologist attending.

Light dinner, exercise during the day, no caffeine after 2pm, no alcohol in the evening will help your quality of sleep.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that gets Melatonin Nightmares.. thank goodness it's not only me.. but by the same token I understand how you must be feeling Kate! My average is about 5 hours a night, and I take a sleep aid ( Sominex) to help... It gets me off to sleep quickly.. and but like you staying asleep is another matter after about 5 ..or 6 on a good night

Oh, I sleep so well almost every single night! Nothing to worry about to keep me awake or restless that won't wait until morning.
The only time I don't sleep well is when I have to set alarm for early volunteer work in my community. Then, I wake up to check the clock. Silly, huh.
Once in a while I dream. Mostly that's pleasant, too.

Rate myself a 10. Couldn't expect better than the 8 hour rest.

I’m with Kate, sore subject. I think sleeplessness is the bane of old age.

This year has been especially hard because of an accident that required surgery in February. I already needed a new bed so I bought a Sleep Number in June. I have mixed success with the bed.

Melatonin does nothing for me, no sleep, no nightmares but there is one thing that works. Valerian tea. But, I must be careful when I use it. Less is better. It upsets the digestive system if I make it too strong, have too much or too often but it does let me sleep.

Thanks, @Nathan I've been doing a light and early dinner before 5, no caffeine after 3, and never ever any alcohol. Enough exercise... uh... can we look the other way and forget that I didn't answer that part? (Only treadmill but not enough... my aerobics had to stop a few years ago). I guess I pretty much sound like a lost cause, eh? 😓😢

Nope, you're definitely not alone... and that is much worse for me than waking at 2.

Whatever you're doing, would you consider selling it on Etsy or eBay... I'll sign up. 🤭 @Right Now

Same as Gaer - never had a problem sleeping (even when I shouldn't - ie: in a class when younger!)

Daily exercise in fresh air is a MUST - reason for having a dog (at least 1 1/2 hours/day of brisk walking and a 15 minute stroll before bedtime); no coffee after 4 pm and no snacks after 9 pm. (not sure if late "snacks" contribute to "unable to sleep" syndrome!!)

Husband use to complain sleeping issues - he didn't include the "after golf" naps as part of the daily suggested hours of sleep.

Ah, I can sleep anywhere, anytime. "on a picket fence".
I sleep well, (innocent conscience). haha! have INCREDIBLE dreams.
My dog wakes me about four in the morning to go out,
but I go back to sleep. If I can't sleep, I meditate.
Let me ask, in all seriousness and honesty: the concept of eastern meditation, so far as emptying the mind in some fashion, is incomprehensible to me. By this, I mean my head is always ON, has always been, even as a kid. I'm not sure how I would ever shut it down, and in fact if I would be happy if I did.

I mean, I *like* it to run all the time... :)
