Question about split pea soup ......

Currently I have chili, chicken soup and beef stew frozen for meals. I am thinking about split pea soup as my next freezer project, I have never made it before, so will be new to me. Has anyone made it to freeze? Does it freeze well? Will be doing it in my slow cooker.

Marie instructions are usually on the back of the bag of peas. I think it freezes fine. I like to do the usual soup veg; sauteed onion, carrot and celery, then some chopped fresh garlic.
Salt and pepper to taste.

If using ham, I wouldn't add salt until the end, after tasting. Same with ham bone.

OK, thanks. My mom always made it with the ham bone after Easter. I am used to cooking without salt, so would not add extra

It freezes very well. The only thing is, if you use ham in it, the ham texture will change after freezing. Other than that, it will be fine.

Good idea and now I feel like making soup.

OK, I think I will go for it. Wonder if I can just buy a ham bone (just thinking aloud here). A whole ham on the bone would just be too much for just me

I don't recall seeing a ham bone by itself, but as @againstthegrain said, smoked ham hock would be nice; even better.

BTW, I never use my slow cooker for anything but chicken stock. I'm thinking pea soup takes long enough to cook on the stove as it is.
