Question for gardeners, please

It’s colder, a lot colder, than usual for May. In the 40s(9) overnight. Even my pansies are looking sad! I want to get some impatiens into my flower boxes, but is it too cold? I know they’re in the cold at the garden center, but are they dead or do garden centers sell annuals that are hardened to the local weather? It’s supposed to be like this all week.
Thank you.

Me too for the cold weather for the next week at least. Flower boxes are above ground and they should be ok. I don't think annuals get hardened to the local weather. Check to see if the garden center flowers are droopy? I think you are ok to plant. This is all just my personal opinion.

I know I’m too late for this but impatiens are only half hardy so will only survive outdoors after the last frost.
Garden centres make loads of money by selling bedding plants to inexperienced gardeners at Easter, knowing they’ll be able to sell them more later once those have been killed off by a cold spring.
