I think it's okay to bring flowers to a man who is sick in the hospital. That's pretty much a classic. But the vast majority of men will not be impressed by flowers given to them for any other occasion.

Ladies, if you feel the urge to give flowers to a man for any other reason than being hospitalized, call a girlfriend and yak until the feeling passes...

Not in Australia - pot plants are just plants in a pot here - never heard anyone call them potted plants.
