Question for those who suffer from High or very high BP ?

I can't cope with Tramadol. I was given after my Osteoarthritis Diagnosis, to cope with the pain.. but Tramadol makes me feel so awful stopped taking it...
I agree Tramadol is one of narco. which is very potent med, although a lot of Ortho, docs rx'es it. In my case, at the start taking it, I cut a bit, a bit, about 1/8 tab by using both a sharp-knife and pill cutter. After my system got used to it, I increased one tab at the time. Now, I take two tabs a day along with Gabapentin 400 mg. which works on my pain without experiencing 'excruciating pain' which I had about once two months' period. Tramadol with Gabapentin is 'life-saver' for me.
btw) any over-the-counter meds. along with rx'ed pain meds. did not interfere my HB. Only Tramadol makes my HB very high, although an experienced GP rx'ed two different HB meds. to stabilize my HB which started in my early '60s.

Pleased it works for you... (y)

Until I was about 50 I smoked two packs a day and had very low (below normal) blood pressure.
I quit smoking and gained weight and now I have high blood pressure.
I never drank.
I smoked two packs a day, drank a six pack a day, was 80+ lb.s overweight. and my blood pressure was through the roof. I quit drinking and ultimately smoking and now my BP is firmly in the lower-than-average range.

I have to say that it was more a matter of self preservation than willpower. And none of that was planned, just pretty much spontaneous changes in behavior, when the danger of not changing became apparent.
ah yes nothing like facing your own demise.. to get us to change our behaviours...pleased you did it... !(y)

High blood pressure is known as the silent killer. You usually don’t know you have it.
I’m very lucky that I get a bad headache when my BP is too high. Usually about every 5-7 years my medication stops working and I have to take a different medication.

I got HBP when I was 50 and in excellent shape hiking in the mountains every weekend and walking 4-8 miles the other days after work. Definitely genetic in my family.

MY FM.. said they started getting localised headaches. Not like a migraine, or even a normal headache... but very localised on the one area on the right of their temple.. several weeks before the bleeding from the eyes...

They need a second medical opinion. Maybe they could start with an optometrist. That may be easier to see than other specialized doctors and they would have be able to refer your FM off to a specialist. At least they could explain what happened.

Yes localized describes it well. I have a BP machine and take it once a week. If I get a headache I take it and make a doctor appointment if it’s high for a few days and I haven’t had a new prescription in a while. I stay on top of it because strokes also run in my family. I exercise daily and don’t add salt to anything.

yes , now my FM is on Statins.... there's no history of strokes in our family..except my father when he was at the end of his life and suffered from Parkinsons' disease...

@hollydolly, it's odd that his doctor wouldn't prescribe BP meds if his BP was so high it caused bleeding from his eyes.

Statins reduce cholesterol, and with lower cholesterol levels in the blood its pressure will also drop somewhat. However, the gold standard for lowering BP is hypertension meds, with or without statins.

we I don't know any more than what my FM told me... I just didn't know or had ever heard of bleeding from the eyes...
