Question to Americans about criminals who have been arrested

I have just been watching a video ..I've seen plenty before..of criminals in the USA being arrested and often it's women who go ballistic, screaming, fighting, combative against the officers. Often I've seen the officers ask the criminal if they want to go to hospital , when the criminal has complained that they're hurt.. or have been hurt by the officers, whether true or false.

Now in this one I just watched the woman who was very combative, spitting , fighting, .. so the police had to put a crash helmet on her, cuffed her , and also tied up her ankles with a velcro type belt .. she insisted she needed to go the hospital and they took her there.. altho' clearly there was nothing physically wrong with her.

My question is.. in these scenarios.. do the Criminals have to pay the hospital bill ?

I fed the question to AI and got this:

When someone is arrested and needs to go to the hospital, the responsibility for the medical bills generally falls on the individual receiving the medical care. This is true even if the person is in police custody at the time.

However, there can be some exceptions depending on the circumstances and local laws. For instance, if the person has health insurance, the insurance might cover some of the costs.

In all likelihood that person will pass through the ER, and be evaluated for drug or alcohol effects. I'm no expert but I have read that some of the exotic drugs on the street can cause one to be hostile and out of control. In that case it is as much for their own good as those around them. Even if they were financially liable, it is required of public hospitals to render care to someone regardless of financial means.

Your post raises a thought. In years past you rarely saw women involved in such displays, it seemed it was mainly men that were acting out. Not necessarily a change for the better in my opinion.

Here is what we experienced. My wife was to have a medical procedure based upon her cardiologist's advice. Since we had not satisfied the full deductible on our employer provided medical insurance, the hospital told me that I would need to a little more than $3,000. I started to pay and then asked the lady how much it would be if we had no insurance, her response less than $1,200. So I simply said then take out the claim for insurance coverage and I paid the lessor amount. Now does that really make sense?

The police Cam videos on youtube are absolutely chocked full of women going berserk at police, usually when pulled for a simple traffic violation.. They seem to be very much worse than men

In the instance that I'm talking about today... this was a domestic violence case.. the defendant wasn't on drugs or didn't appear to be.. she was just a horrible specimen who was belligerent towards the officers who had the patience of saints..

it's quite a boring case.. one woman attacked another in a laundrette... attacker denied it all... so here;s the video.. but the action doesn't take place until she spits at the officers, at around.. 20 minutes in

Then there's this brat.. no licence.. and still thinks she has a right to be on the road..

In the US a public hospital must have a certificate of need. Partly because of the government support they receive but it also imposes requirements on the facility. In essence such a hospital has two prices for the same service provided. One is a cash based price, and the other is the fully loaded price which includes allocation of additional admin costs and subsidizing those services provided to those with no financial means.

If someone in police custody demands medical assistance then they are taken to the AE more as a cover-your-ass thing than anything else I believe if you have the means you pay for it if you can other than that the AE is reimbursed through a fund earmarked for that purpose. It is women who are the most combative, I'd be more afraid of arresting women than men.

This question goes right to the heart of the issue involved in the immigration problem in the US. Benefits that are by law reserved for its citizens are being wholesale awarded to non citizens. I don't think there are many Americans that resent immigrants who come here through the legal pathway, but the rest are a terrible burden on the nation as a whole. It seems now the genie is out of the bottle and trying to reverse it may not be possible.

I think I'll stay at home, the world has gone totally bonkers. 😊
