Question : Would you rather? read below.

All too often these days, and argument winds up with violence. But, with a screaming baby, I'd attempt to help its parent calm them any which way I could.. Babies ears are extremely sensitive to air changes and it hurts their heads if a plane either climbs a bit or descends.
I feel bad for flight attendants these days and the garbage they have to put up with because as strange as I am which is mostly bad comedy I am polite and considerate .

Last 10 years or so but mostly last 5 you can not board a plane without some type " therapy " animal on the flight .

I fly coach / economy not first class so perhaps different there .

They are finally coming down on " emotional support " .

That Peacock is lovely, and a good emotional support animal, even if things did not work out 😊
You are right though, the flight attendants and what they have to put up with at times..

One of the last times I flew was on Alaskan Airline, heading to Vermont with
a stop over in Chicago. Sat next to two men throwing a fit about something
and verbally expressing it between them. I felt tense and uncomfortable until
the stewardess calmed them down.

Yes I feel for them as thankless job .

The time I was sitting between two self absorbed guys as both " battled it out " between each other as far as how rich they were yet again this is economy seats so why the nonsense , I had enough and told them as a kid I enjoyed eating silly putty and plastic toys and if they saw any hair growing on my bald head as recently began applying unscented cat urine which someone told me works for hair growth .

Got up went to bathroom and both changed their seats the flight attendant did look at me strange but as leaving plane she laughed and said you look like you have new hairs growing in last couple hours , so I laughed I guess one or both told her what I told them .

I could at least try to help with the screaming baby. I would fear to get involved with two arguing adults.

I once walked the aisles for a couple of hours on an overnight flight (thank goodness it was a big plane with two aisles so I could do a circuit) with a baby while his very young mother sobbed and was comforted by the attendants in the galley. As long as I kept moving, he was quiet. When I needed a brief break, my husband took over.

The poor baby had gotten his immunizations the day before (bad mistake) and was sick. He had upchucked on every piece of clothing she had for him. The attendants were washing his clothes in the head and were trying to dry them in the microwave.

Young mom confided that her serviceman husband thought she was just going home to her parents for a visit, but that she didn't plan to return to him. So sad. Between that and the sick baby, she was about done in.

Having done three looong (36 hours from door to door) transatlantic trips with an infant, I have great sympathy for anyone traveling with a baby. Misbehaving adults? Throw 'em out the door.

I flew a lot in the eighties and nineties at least 4 times a month. Flew everywhere. Never had the problem with the adults arguing or a ctying baby.
The 80s were real nice and 90s still hanging on as people were still civil .

Most still are but there is an element now of rude , inconsiderate you did not see back then perhaps social media might have had something to do with it .
