I am thinking about bringing my driving days to an end in a few months and have thought a lot about method of transportation for shopping, medical appts., etc etc.

My mobile is for calls and texting only so Uber app would require me to go on to network which cost a lot more than I am presently paying.
One person I know had to lift her walker into the trunk herself as the driver said he could not do it.
There was no way for her to make a complaint about it or to question if that could happen again so for that reason alone I would never use them.

Uber has an area where customers can make complaints and so does Lyft. I used the feature to complain to report a driver who didn't want to put my small suitcase in the car for me; said it wasn't his job. But of course, it's not in real time and there's not much they can do after the fact if it's a minor complaint. But it goes on record and if the driver gets complained about enough, he'd probably be removed as a driver. He was the only driver that acted like that. Others I've had were more than happy to help me (and sometimes my sister) with our luggage when we vacationed.

I live in a small town...no buses, taxis or trains here. And no one drives for Uber or Lyft, either. However, when I travel, I rely heavily on Uber and it has always been a good experience.

As far as I know everything is done through technology devices.

In my area we have the one taxi cab company, the regular buses, the dial-a -bat (bus) for the elderly and Uber/Lyft.
The dial-a-bat bus will take a person to one doctor appointment.
After it will pick that person up and take them back home.

I use my car as little as possible.
I think there are a lot of people who do want to drive or who do not drive.
I do not know why there aren't car transportation services for those needing to do multiple errands or multiple appointment stops.
There are a few of those over priced transportation services that do the big events such as going to the airports and etc.

I do not think Uber or Lyft is my answer.
Taxis do not do multiple errand or appointments.

I think, Uber and Lyft operate through a mobile device.
See its a techology service that does not have local branches with human beings that a person can speak with.
Taxi Cab Companies and the public bus system operate differently.

Parents tell young girls, "Never go out with strange men",
now if you call for an Uber, it is always a stranger who gets
you into his car!

many , many incidents in London among Uber drivers, who are either unqualified..who have attacked the passengers, and more... to the point where London has revoked their licence TWICE in the last few years ... only reinstating again in March of this year for 2 .5 years...

Uber has been stripped of its London licence after authorities found that more than 14,000 trips were taken with drivers who had faked their identity on the firm’s app.

Transport for London announced the decision not to renew the ride-hailing company’s licence at the end of a two-month probationary extension granted in September. Uber was told then it needed to address issues with checks on drivers, insurance and safety, but has failed to satisfy the capital’s transport authorities.

TfL said on Monday it had identified a “pattern of failures” by Uber, including several breaches that placed passengers and their safety at risk.

In a statement, TfL said: “Despite addressing some of these issues, TfL does not have confidence that similar issues will not reoccur in the future, which has led it to conclude that the company is not fit and proper at this time.”

The decision will not see Uber cars disappear from London immediately, as the firm has said it would appeal and could continue to operate pending the outcome, provided it launched official proceedings within 21 days.

When TfL first rejected Uber’s licence renewal, in September 2017, the firm eventually persuaded judges to award it a 15-month licence to continue.

While TfL said Uber had since made positive improvements, reservations remained – including a change to systems that allowed unauthorised drivers to upload their photos to other drivers’ accounts. This security lapse resulted in at least 14,000 trips - involving 43 drivers – where someone other than the booked driver picked up passengers, TfL said.

The incidents mostly occurred from late 2018 until early 2019, although TfL said it had only recently become aware of the extent of the problem – and the latest offence reported was less than three weeks ago. Among the 43 fraudulent drivers discovered were some whose licences had been revoked, and one driver who had been cautioned for distributing indecent images of children.

Uber said it first notified TfL about the issue in May 2019 and had since implemented technical fixes to resolve it. The firm also plans to bring in facial recognition technology.

London mayor Sadiq Khan backed TfL’s decision. He said: “I know this decision may be unpopular with Uber users, but their safety is the paramount concern. Regulations are there to keep Londoners safe, and fully complying with TfL’s strict standards is essential if private hire operators want a licence to operate in London.”

Jamie Heywood, Uber’s regional general manager, said: “TfL’s decision not to renew Uber’s licence in London is extraordinary and wrong, and we will appeal.

“On behalf of the 3.5 million riders and 45,000 licensed drivers who depend on Uber in London, we will continue to operate as normal and will do everything we can to work with TfL to resolve this situation.”

London is Uber’s biggest European market. Shares in the firm fell almost 6% in pre-market trading in New York.

I guess that is why I am afraid to even try it. If it came down to it I would call a SIL that has had a private driver for years. She travels for work a lot, he picks her up at home and when she comes back from the airport at ungodly hours. I if I have need for someone to go with me to the doctor or medical related the son takes me. He has done this on many an occasion. I can have my son help me, even stays here and takes care of me if needed. Of course we know this in advance so he can plan to be off work. I pay him his salary for missed time at work, I insist on that.

I can have most everthing delivered by grocery stores, Amazon and even the local pharmacy. It is better to have an account at a reasonable rate to have peace of mind. It may cost a little a year but once you how much easier it is when you can't get out, it saves a fortune in stress.

I really like having the grocery service available, they bring the heavy stuff, the dog food, the bottled water, the sodas etc. All I have to do is bring it in instead of lifting at the grocery, then into my trunk, then into the house. If is cold, rainy bad weather or if it is the boiling hot of the summer I do not have to go out uness I want to. Mostly these days, I go out to get the loss leaders in meat and produce sales. I keep a good stock of everything in the freezers and pantry so I don't have to worry about it. When you look at it, the cost is quite low for the peace of mind that you can take care of yourself.

The other thing that I like is most of my deliveries are made by women. They are out there trying to make a little bit of money when the kids are in school. I have deliveries in the evening and the kids are right there with Mom bringing the bags to the door. I feel good knowing those tips go to families that need a little help.

Blessed:
I do not know what a SIL is.
In my area it is difficult finding any transportation service that does multiple stops/errands.
On ocassions I have used a transportation service for multiple errands.
Sometimes the owner/driver is unavailable for my time slot. Sometimes the guy calls me up
with a last minute cancellation; that does come with a sorry or I am sorry.

I would like to find a good transportation service that does multiple errands or appointments.
On ocassions I have ordered online.
