Questions regarding future care needs

My Mom is almost 90 and don't have LTC insurance. She refused to buy it years ago. Luckily, for her things are going good health-wise. She still lives independently in her home and continues to travel.

I don't have a policy and everything I read indicates the rates are prohibitive with little in return. As someone else stated, it's all based on profits for companies and shareholders.

As is your auto insurance and homeowners insurance, and with the exception of Medicare/Medicaid - any health insurance as well, which includes LTCi.

It is the cost we, as consumers and voters, have indicated we are willing to pay for a for-profit insurance industry - as witness the huge debate over "socialism" when Obama's ACA program was proposed. There are many people who do not view healthcare, whether old or young, as an entitled right, and do not approve of expanding Medicare to cover all.

It was estimated in 2020 that around 28 million Americans lack any kind of health insurance at all. Since Medicaid is a state-managed program, and it has ended up paying for almost 80% of all nursing home residents, you should always make note of how (generously or not) your state funds Medicaid as well as management of its public health dept., which is the division responsible for inspecting and regulating SCN facilities.

CA funds Medi-Cal generously (our name for Medicaid) but regulation is sometimes outrageously incompetent.
