Quirks You Have

One of my unpleasant memories from childhood was plumbing problems. My parents were cheap when it came to house repairs & sometimes, I'd see water gushing into the house from a broken pipe, or flushing a toilet & everything coming up instead of going down. It would really freak me out & I'd have nightmares about it.
In my place, I spent a fortune on plumbing repairs & upgrades - whatever the cost, everything had to be PERFECT. Probably because of those memories.
I also hoard certain things - not so much because I fear running out of them; I just like to have lots of variety:
Soap (I always have at least 25 bars - I like the different smells.) And I like having 3-4 different choices in the shower.
I'm a coffee snob - I usually have 2-3 bags of different ones.

Do those count as "Quirks?"

Do you have any quirks? (meaning peculiar behavioral habits). I have one that drives me up the wall when it happens. I have an eye tic that is uncontrollable at times. I never know when it will act up.o_O:rolleyes: I have tried to control it and that only makes it worse. Spent a long time trying to figure it out and there is no rhyme or reason to it that I'm aware of. I guess the thing is to accept oneself but ugh!😨
Hmmmm......I'm not sure if this is the solution to your problem, Ruth, but it's worth a try. Buy yourself a three cornered hat, a parrot and a patch to go over that eye, and in your best 'pirate accent' shout out loud, stuff like......"Avast ye landlubbers...... and shiver me timbers." Well it might not cure your eye, but it may take your mind off it. 😅

I must have all the towels straight on towel rack in the bathroom. My tee shirts all have front pockets and they must placed so when I pick one up I can put it on and my pocket is front and shirt is not wrong side out. I also lay my pants, shirt and socks and shoes on table beside bed, I am fully dressed in one minute or less and ready to go when I wake up. I think the towel thing is because my mum would backhand you if you left a towel on the floor...... I do this myself, Sweetie thinks I am weird, but tolerates me.

I usually wait until the last minute to do things because "I work best under pressure"🙄 ...my excuse anyway. I'll start packing for a big trip at midnight for a 6am flight when I've known about the trip for months. BUT, then I want to be at the airport earlier than anyone else wants to be...like 2 hours before boarding whereas they're fine with one hour. They used to all worry I wouldn't be packed and irritated to have to leave for the airport early but now they all know how I am and use to it. I always manage to pack everything and never miss a flight.

I also make my daughter call me when she leaves her house so I have 20 minutes to clean the house lol. Again, I work best under pressure.

Another quirk is my texts are too long and I'm always editing/tweaking them. I'm sorry :)

I'm super messy, but for some reason the light switches in the hallway have to be flipped the same way. Three of them have switches for the same light in other areas (garage, living room, opposite end of hall), and I can't stand it if they're not turned the same way. I'll go out to the garage and flip that switch to turn the light on, then come back in the hall to turn the garage light off so the switches are lined up the same way when all the lights are off.

I'm not great with housekeeping but when it comes to working in the kitchen preparing food I'm fastidious, constantly wash my hands, not overusing the hand towels, wiping down counters, sink, etc. I go through lots of paper towels but tear off only what I need.

You know the greens, like spinach, in the grocery store that come "triple-washed? Well I wash them again. I use mountain spring water even for my coffee and dog bowl.

If there's wax on the apples or cucumbers I peel them and throw out the peelings. I wash the outside of rinds before cutting, like watermelon and avocado. I completely scrub or peel root vegetables and cut off their root ends when juicing. I got a beet and greens juice from Whole Foods once and it was gritty and earthy tasting...ick

I cover things with paper towels, short-term, in case of a fruit fly or particles in the air. I freak out when I see cats on peoples kitchen counters. Dr. Oz does that. And a pet sitter I used once in her home did that. My dog came home and immediately jumped up on my kitchen counter. Surprised the heck outta me! Didn't take long to retrain her.

Oh, and I won't buy alfalfa sprouts because they're grown in a moist warm environment...prime for salmonella

Nothing wrong with that, Annie, it's your house, your light switches, but I'll bet you keep fit tooing and froing....:)
