Race to find Titanic tourist submarine with British billionaire and four others aboard that has vanished

Its like playing with Matches, sooner or later there will be a fire !!!
it was a no brainer of that crazy idea in the first place, ,, just heart broken
that this all happened in the first place,,

I thought I'd heard something about this, so I looked it up to be sure. This is from NOAA and now I'm thinking the site should be left alone and shouldn't have been treated as a tourist attraction in the first place. 🤷‍♀️

16 U.S.C. § 450rr-4. NOAA has also determined that it is appropriate to treat Titanic as a grave site and maritime memorial to the victims, consistent with Article 2 of the International Agreement, which establishes Titanic as a maritime memorial.

Last night on the news, the commentator that was connected to the company stated that they had about 40 hours of oxygen left. His main concern was that the sub may be trapped in debris, which is what they worry with divers also. The Titanic sits some 13,000+ feet below the surface. I wish them all the luck in he world just to locate the sub. I don't know how they would raise it if it has no power.
On the news this morning, they said they have a large machine that can lift airplanes off the ocean floor. So they figure if they can find it lifting it would work.

I would imagine people with stupid amounts of money have a very different thought process when it comes to leisure time activities than we penny pinchers do. They've already seen & done it all in terms of lavish travel/vacations and adventure activities. It would eventually become harder and harder to find something intriguing to do so this sort of 'adventure' might just be irresistible to them?

That is an usually harsh and straight forward condemnation from NOAA.

My guess is that those people died almost instantly. The basic hull has made previous trips and probably didn't collapse. But, there are connections to the exterior for lights and motors. If one of those failed at that depth the stream of water would quickly fill the hull and the sudden pressure change would be fatal. I think I read in one of the posts above that there was some recent electrical work done. That's scary.

If they're still alive, it's just occurred to me, they'll be starving, and probably have no water, because when they went down there, they were just going for a few hours...so much so that they were all pre-warned to go to the toilet before they climbed on board given there's only one toilet on there and it's pretty much in view... so I doubt very much if food and any water was taken on board...

That's exactly right... they find it more and more difficult to find things to do that will excite them and more importantly to them than few others have done.

Just out of curiosity, the reports are listing one operator and "four mission specialists." That sounds odd to me... one's a diver, so I get that, but what makes the two million/billionaires and the 19 year old mission specialists? Or is that just to cover tracks for the company?

I expect they give them a fancy title for their 1/4 of a Million ££££'s

Apparently, on a previous dive, there was a loss of communication for about two hours and forty-five minutes so, I am guessing that the delay in alerting the authorities was likely because Oceangate expected to be able to re-establish contact but, that delay meant that almost eight hours were lost.

The basic problem is that the submersible, Titan, has stopped transmitting signals, making it almost impossible to locate. It is supposed to send a sonar ‘ping’ (radar and GPS not functioning under water) to mothership Polar Prince every 15 minutes, but the last one was at 9.45am EST (2.45pm UK time) on Sunday – an hour and 45 minutes into the dive as it was floating right above the Titanic.
For some reason, OceanGate Expeditions, the company that runs the tours of the Titanic, took eight hours to call the coastguard on Sunday. It was reported to the US Coastguard at 5.40pm (10.40pm UK time), and Canada’s coastguard was alerted even later, at 9.13pm (2am on Monday UK time).
