Rats, Screwed That Up!

Aunt Mavis

I have met the enemy and he is us. Pogo
Some things you'll never forget.
I could spell really well in grade school, usually either the champ or runner-up in every Spelling Bee. In 5th grade Brandy and I qualified for the city championship which was a big deal back then. Early on I was given the word separate, easy as pie. S-e-p-e-r-a-t-e. You idiot!! Funny how I never misspelled that word again. Brandy went out shortly after me but she did end up in Playboy years later, b@@bs were out too.

I still like watching The National Spelling Bee, boy can those East Indian kids spell. Geez!

Teachers these days focus on nonsense instead of basics like arithmetic, spelling and etc. (In my opinion)

Sometime in grade school I learned the proper spelling of separate. It was during reading class, one of the stories we had to read was about that word and its proper spelling.

It seemed so easy. The next thing I know I’m out in the parking lot. Lol.

People seem to think that, because they have all this predictive text on their phones, they don't need to learn about 'old-fashioned' stuff like spelling. That's why you see errors with it's and its; your and you're; and there, their and they're. Those errors can make you look pretty dumb, imho
Punctuation, how a common error infuriates me, it's trivial and I should simply ignore it, but...............
Next time you read something and there's a quotation in inverted commas look to see a further punctuation mark like this: "Quotation". That full stop and any other quotation should be inside the quotation commas.

I was in my one and only Spelling Bee in Grade 11.

I was the first one asked to spell, and the word given was 'baboon'. I got nervous and blurted out b-a-b-b-o-o-n. It was all over before it began, but I've never misspelled that word ever since.

For some reason that is one of those words that has haunted me for my lifetime. I always have to stop and think about it. Even to the point of having to google it sometimes...

When I read the title, at first I thought rats had gotten into your stuff and messed it up. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: I have misspelled "separate" on occasion myself. English and spelling used to be my strong point....don't know what happened.
