I just saw this on the internet:

"Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences Sunday to Iran’s president over what he called “a cynical murder” of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“Please accept my deepest condolences in connection with the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran … committed in cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law,” Putin said in a Telegram addressed to his counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian."

I believe that we may be on the verge of a world war between Russia and the United States. Putin may use the Iran conflict to have an excuse to attack the USA. China may also join in on Russia's side. This could be the beginning of World War III !

While most deliveries are scheduled for 2027–2029, reports suggest a small number may have already been delivered.
  • Mi-28 Attack Helicopters: In January 2026, Iran received up to six Mi-28NE "Night Hunter" attack helicopters to modernize its aging fleet.
  • Yak-130 Combat Trainers: Russia delivered at least one squadron of Yak-130 advanced jet trainers starting in late 2023 to prepare Iranian pilots for modern fighter jets.
  • Su-35 Fighter Jets: Iran has formalized a contract for 48 Su-35 "Flanker-E" multirole fighters, with deliveries expected between 2026 and 2028.

The Nature of the Partnership

  • Captured Western Weapons: Russia has reportedly sent captured Western equipment from the Ukraine battlefield, such as Javelin anti-tank and Stinger anti-aircraft systems, to Iran for reverse-engineering.
  • Strategic Treaty: In January 2025, the two nations signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty to strengthen military and intelligence cooperation, though it notably lacks a mutual defense clause.

We haven't won a war since WW2. What we do is go in, get ourselves into a quagmire, then declare victory and go home leaving behind a big mess. So far we've been getting away with it. But someday one of these wars we start is going to follow us home.

I agree with you, it's like poking a hornets nest, one of these days those hornets are going to chase you home and sting the shit out of you.

We did win one in the '90s: the war in Kosovo.

The US led a 79-day NATO bombing campaign against Yugoslavia in 1999 (Operation Allied Force) to halt ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo by Slobodan Milosevic's forces. The March-June 1999 intervention, aimed at preventing a wider Balkan crisis and protecting regional stability, forced the withdrawal of Serbian forces and established a NATO-led peacekeeping mission.
