A patient of mine told me that a couple came to her door. The man told her they were riding by and noticed something wrong with her roof near the side of the house. He wanted to point it out to her as a courtesy. She went outside with them and he was showing her the damage or whatever then they left.
Apparently while they were out someone else slipped in and got her purse, billfold, jewelry, and what they could grab quickly.
Beware.

Oooh that's been going on for a long time unfortunately.

People have to learn if someone knocks on your door, with excuses about roof slates off..water leaks...trees falling down, damage to your car...etc... to shut the door very quickly and call the police and report them...

You can go out later an inspect the property after their gone, but under no circumstances do you allow anyone to take you out of your home ( or let anyone in) on some pretext...

Unlike the good old days, people need to be careful about who they open the door to and even who they engage in conversation with.

Last summer we had an overly polite guy knocking on back doors in the middle of the day saying he "lost his passport". I didn't open my door - made him shout thru the door. I noticed he had a large very long screwdriver tool* in his hand. :wtf: I saw him look into a neighbor's kitchen window and was gonna call the police, but someone else did. If you lose your passport you get a replacement, you don't go up and down the street with a screwdriver peering into windows.

Can't trust anyone these days that's for sure! These days I would just let the guy leave and check out the roof later on. I've had jokers selling roofs ring my doorbell asking if they could give me a free estimate because I looked like I had some roof damage from the recent hail......well, I just had my roof replaced and it was brand new and in perfect condition. I used to be more trusting with people in my younger days, but over the years and watching the news, I'm getting more and more suspicious of people who knock on my door.

AC, that's crazy! What a stupid excuse he had for being there!

I won't open my door for anybody, I just say "sorry, can't open the door because of my dog" and it's believable because he's barking like crazy right next to me...I can barely hear what they want. :)

Two reasons I won't open my door...

1. I'd have to put Pickles in a closed room first.

2. There have been occasions where seniors who opened their door were pushed back in by robbers and tied up and even beaten while they took what they wanted. It wasn't in my area but after I read about that...forget it.
