I am always amazed at the people who appear to totally disregard serious and specific weather warnings and still set off on motorways and long journeys at night. Then they are very surprised to be stranded and have to be rescued.

On the other hand there is always such exaggeration and clamour on the news. I was terrified on Thursday to leave the house - I am in the Midlands. Then Friday I saw it seemed like clear roads, despite warnings of blizzards, so I drove the few minutes to do my shopping. No problems at all. They warned of icy conditions today, nothing happened. It has been sunny though cold and I walked my dog just fine.
It is essential to use common sense and do a calculated risk assessment of your own. Our weather never lasts long but be sensibly prepared.

I laugh at people getting hysterical over an inch of snow.. they need to go and live in Canada, they'll know what it's like then to have snow create mayhem...

This was the now day before yesterday here...

Yup, had the chance of experiencing the Canadian winter weather. -35°C daily, 6 to 12 feet of snow, icicles in your lashes, nose and frozen feet and fingers. Driving in light drifting snow over black ice. Fun... Not!

The ... plow-guy who waits in hiding until we're done clearing our driveways... The minute we disappeared indoors, he shows up and pushes all the street's snow against our lawns and blocking our freshly cleared driveways with a 6 foot wall of chunky snow. Man we hated that guy! The last horrible winter with near 12 feet was 95 in February.

All I really miss from those years, walking with the dogs in a snowfall, magical. Cross-country skiing on the trails in gorgeous scenery and skating on the frozen canal. Sweet memories...

However, you come to appreciate the driving experience acquired in such hazardous situations. Then enjoying your hometown a lot more when you return.

PS, I'm glad we went shopping and banked food last week, just in case this weather gets worst and we're stuck home. What worries me? Possible power cuts...
