Reflections of My Life

Today is Sonny's Birthday. He is 3 days younger than me so that is why I get to boss him around (or so I tell him).

One of the reason I like to keep to myself and stay in my apartment is because of people. I know we live in an old high school but the people living here act like they are in elementary school. Everybody comes at me telling me stuff about another person. I hurry to get back to my apartment. I am not taking sides with anyone but I just let them talk and don't say anything.

Tonight I am not feeling so positive or good. Guess I will just get off the computer

From what I understand Kat this happens in many buidlings where people are kinda close together, with faciliies on site if you see what I mean.

For example there's a beautiful assisted living appartment block in our market town, ..and when I asked my 90 year old neighbour who struggles with her mobility why she doesn't apply for a place there she said..''oh no... the gossping and troublemaking among them all is awful''....so she'd rather stay in her own home, where she pays a gardener, and a cleaner , than live where she feels she wouldn't be able to cope with the backstabbing and gossip..

She is right. Eventually the troublemakers move out but then someone else takes their place.

Another problem I see in these people is that they have nothing to do. They say they don't have a computer or know how to use one as if they are superior to someone who has one. Well, I would be lost without mine. Even if I could not go online I still do computer things. It is all the socialization I need. Doctors and insurance companies seem to zero in on how much socializing you are doing due to my age.

I have almost caught up with my laundry. I have one (maybe two) of bedding and towels to do. Maybe tomorrow. Usually Saturday is a busy day in the laundry room. Yesterday I had it all to myself. Stayed down there and colored. I do it that way now. I never know if my machine is working or not so want to be close by while it washing and drying.

Yesterday, we had some excitement here. The kind I can live without. First police officers came out back and talked to one of the guys who lives downstairs. I think it had to do with a homeless guy who was there too. He has been hanging around. He has a grocery cart filled with big garbage bags of his stuff. Anyway after that he left.

Then later one of the smokers had to be taken by the emergency squad to the emergency room. She could not breathe. She looked really bad, laying on the picnic bench till they came to pick her up. Back smoking again after she got back.

Today I will be doing some chores and other things here. No packages coming today. Not until Wednesday. So I am good.

I agree , I always laugh at people who think by refusing or deliberately not embracing modern technology which of course is their future... brag about it, like it's some kind of achievement, instead of the opposite...

Same on this forum when people boast they don't have a smart phone.. or a smart TV... or a credit or debit card... this is backward thinking... yet they seem to think it's something to be proud of ! It really does beggar belief

...... can you imagine if our own ancestors had said..oh no, we are not using this metal object they call money to buy anything... we will continue to pay with salt.... or oh no.. what is this round thing they are calling a wheel? I've got through life with out it.. I don't need it.... ..Not for me... they say with a puffed up chest...:ROFLMAO:

Katlupe,
It's good to see you here, this morning. 🤩🥰

I understand because I live in a very similar building. You've got to focus on the activities that are positive. Which you do of course.

Great that you got some laundry done. That's always an accomplishment.

I've had to give up my coloring at least for now, due to problems with my hand. I really miss that, and it also effects sewing and other activities I'd like to do.. crochet...etc.

BUT, my hand is not bad using the keyboard, for computer, so hurray for that!🥳😎🥳🤓🥳🥸🥳

😁😄😆

I too, am very glad to be able to use the computer!🤩🤓🤩

Well, I never got into the phone thing. I struggle with it because I feel like I can't control it. I am more comfortable with the computer. So I only use the phone for actual calls or text messages from appointments or deliveries. I never learned what a smart tv or phone does because I probably could not afford it. As it is my phone is constantly telling me my storage is full and I need to delete apps (which I don't have that I know of). I can't take pictures with it because of the storage being full.

It was hard for some people to give up the horse for transportation and switch to cars. As much as I love horses, I think it would be harder to use them for transportation than a car. If you don't need to use the car for a few days it can just sit in the driveway. If you don't need to go anywhere and are using horses for transportation you still have to go out and care for them. Every day no matter what.

Kat... at least you tried tho'... however if you have apps on your phone, then you have a smart phone...

Go to you tube and ask how to clear the storage on your particular model of phone... .. and a smart TV is not really any more expensive than a conventional TV.. and don't worry about it, if you do ever get one, its easier than using the computer tbh...

On mine I have to go to settings and to apps and then clear the cache in the storage on each one. I miss just using my phone for a phone.

I am glad you can use the computer! I definitely would be lost without it.

Really, I'm baffled by people who have nothing to do! How do they manage that?? I have all I can do to keep myself clean and fed, never mind the housework, or much of anything else. The only reason I'm on the computer (besides enjoying it of course) is that it's a necessary rest period for me. I set an alarm for 10 minutes, then get up and get something done. Anyway, enough about good old me, I'm glad you had a nice birthday, Kat

I think it comes with living in small apartments. Though I think they could spend more time cleaning but that is me. I can't figure out if I just like to live in a very clean place or the process of cleaning (which I have done my whole life).

Well I was turned down for getting an aide to assist me. So I think that is a sign for me to get busy and figure out a way to do all the jobs I thought I could not do. In some ways, having an aide sounds good but then you have someone in your private space and time. I will get the tools I need to do the things I cannot do. And most important, write a schedule to do certain jobs! Following a plan always helps me to do things and stick to it.

I always remind myself that if I can't do something now, I can do it later. I am not punching a clock! Writing a schedule does not mean it has to be done on that particular day if I am having trouble walking. Take the time off and do it the next day or whenever I can.

I wish I had as much patience with myself as you do kat. I'm always nagging myself, yet nothing seems to get done.
Try to do only 1 thing each day. By the end of the week you did 7.

Another thing I do is instead of standing in the kitchen to prepare something, I put it on my walker and sit in the computer chair to do the work. Then take it to the kitchen on the walker. To fold laundry I put it on the walker and sit down while I fold it. Then use the walker to take it to the dresser.

I have an idea for some of the harder jobs. As small as my apartment is I take breaks while vacuuming. Do a little then sit down. And do not do too many jobs in one day.

For me, the thing that keeps me from being depressed or hopeless is keeping my apartment clean and comfy. When I lived in my house it was dusty (wood, horse work, lots of clutter with no place to put things) and I was so depressed there. So I promised myself I would make this apartment my sanctuary from the world.

I have arthritis. I'm retired now. my dr.said I need to take more breaks
.
I don't have to do every thing until it's done. need to slow down no hurry to get things done it can wait ! I'm the king of my abode, well except for my cat he likes to let me think I am

I like the way you think 🌻

😒 Bummer.
Maybe you could ask one of your friend's aides if they could help once in a while when convenient, or maybe they know someone. You should not be on your knees, but that is the only way to clean some areas of a floor.

Oh no, I won't be on my knees no matter what! For one thing I could never kneel on them. 2nd thing is I cannot get down on the floor. So I am buying those long handled brushes or sponges to clean with. The bottom of the toilet, the shower floor & the bottom of the refrigerator are the main jobs I need to figure out.

Sorry to hear that. I have to sometimes figure out other ways to tackle things at the house and at work when there's things I can't quite manage. I'm sure you'll be great at being resourceful.

Please keep us posted with the results of your experiments.

The bathtub is my biggest challenge!
