Reflections of My Life

Since I didn't do much yesterday, I will make up for that today. Starting with laundry. I got some new tops and flannel pajamas that were delivered yesterday. So going to wash them first. While I am downstairs I will check out my storage locker so I can find (or empty) the Rubbermaid plastic containers to put my afghans in. The afghans are in the cedar chest presently. I want to wash and dry them and then put them down there for now. I will figure out their fate after I get the cedar chest out of here.

I need to get that out of here because it blocks part of the heater. From now on I will keep that space clear. I might get a small stand to put the lamp on because I need a light in that corner. I will see once I can work on it without the cedar chest.

I am happy with getting the YouTube Premium now. It is a free trial right now but I can tell that I will keep it. All kinds of movies, shows and music comes up on it now.

It is 36 degrees right now and won't be going up that much even though sunshine is predicted. Then down in the 20's tonight. So need to keep us (Rabbit & me) warm.

Staying busy chases the blues away. Enjoy your Sunday, day. What's for dinner?
Italian Burger Bowl

In case you haven't read more of my posts here, I live a Keto lifestyle.....protein, fat and low carbs 20 or less. So instead of hamburger patties I cook the ground beef in crumbles and add the other seasonings to it. Sometimes it is pizza, taco or Italian flavored. Just depends what I am in the mood for.

It was 23 degrees when I got up. Now two hours later it is 21. I guess it is going down rather than up as it gets light. I have a lot of things I want to get done this week. The first thing is to finish emptying out the cedar chest so my cousin can come get it. I am giving her some other things also. If she can't use them she can pass them along to her kids. They have families and who can use more stuff? :)

I bought a flannel pajama set and wore it last night for the first time. Kept me warm and toasty all night long. I wish Rabbit would let me put one on him. :giggle: I doubt that. I also got a poncho with a cowl neck. It is one of those types that you can use in place of a sweater not a coat.

Every morning now, instead of getting right on the computer I am reading at least one chapter in a book. Today I read two chapters in my new Shirley MacLaine book. And a chapter in Unholy Trinity: How Carbs, Sugar & Oils Make Us Fat, Sick, Addicted & How To Escape Their Grip (as for this book, I already know most of this information since I already eat this way). I have been reading like crazy lately. I get into a book then I have to force myself to stop at the end of the chapter to go do whatever I need to do.

I had a similar Sunday dinner: Hamburger cooked in bits rather than as a patty and mixed in with cooked string beans and black beans with catsup and no salt seasoning. Yum. Being single I usually cook a one pot meal. Good for Sunday dinner.

Life at my own pace is hard for me to get used to. Rather, I was always being interrupted by others' demands and needs. I now realize that made life go by much faster and easier. Moving myself along through my day seems much harder to do for some reason.

It is probably because you are not used to it yet. I try not to have a schedule to live by but end up doing things on a schedule anyway. Especially since I have a pet to care for.

Well, I hadn't mentioned it before but back in June after Ubuntu did updates I could not connect my computer and my printer or either one of my external hard drives. I know it had something to do with Ubuntu since all of them showed they were connected. I hadn't been putting pictures on the hard drive in the computer so I had no way to get to them. I was sad and depressed over this problem. I have nobody in my life now who knows anything about computers. So I was on my own.

I have been getting my pictures from my blog and fakebook. But those are all edited and I like to have the unedited ones. I didn't even mention this problem to anyone but God. My pictures are the story of my life and I look at them often. So it is not like something I am storing and never see them again. I missed them.........

Yesterday, I was going to clean out the closet and my old laptop was in a box there. I took it out and marveled at the fact that it is much bigger than the new one. My husband had bought it for me and he ordered it from Lenova and we had to wait till our computers were built to his specs before they were even shipped (from China of course). What happened to it was that the screen/monitor would not light up. It just quit and that was that. Yesterday, it booted up! I was hopeful and praying anxiously that when I hooked up one of the external hard drives it would work........it did! Instantly!

Now I am copying all the photos onto that computer. Maybe I will buy another external hard drive and put them all on that too. Plus I might put them on my Amazon cloud to have them another place I could access them if my computers die. For now, I am hoping (and praying) to have both computers working and up. I will use the old one for my personal photos and not use it online.

So I am using it with the Windows 10 that was partitioned off with Ubuntu on the other side. I never used the Windows side the whole time I had it. So on this computer, my new one (bought in 2021) I removed it from the computer completely and only use Ubuntu. This is the first problem I have ever had with it. This is my priority project for today and tomorrow.

Wow! You are way ahead of me on this stuff. I am lost reading your comment today. But, it is my shortcoming not yours. I got started on 'new' graphics user interface computers back in 2009. My previous experience with computers began in 1986 and ended in 1991 which at that time was DOS based. So graphics based computing is a whole new world to me. At first I used VISTA and got completely lost with it. I had no friends or neighbors who would help me with understanding any of it; just feeling around in the dark sort of speak.

I remained on the fringes of VISTA until early 2013 when I bought my first Chromebook. Chromebook makes everything simple compared to Microsoft. I went back to a Windows 10 computer in 2017 because Chromebook does not support PhotoShop. But, since Windows 11 has come out my Windows 10 machine has slowed to a turtle's pace. I am now back on Chromebook and have forever sworn I'd never go back to Microsoft again.

I haven't a beginning clue what Ubuntu is. But, like so much about computers, I too have found long ago you can get in real deep with such stuff and can't back out. I do wish I could help you with all this. But, I can't. My only advice is don't get into something you don't understand completely. Otherwise you can quickly get into something and be left high and dry with an unsolvable problem that disrupts your entire life when that life is largely based on the community that you can only access by your computer. Best wishes.

I got started on computers in 1993 on those big IBM ones with the orange screens. Just DOS and bulletin boards back then. Then when Windows came out in 1995, I was working at a big accounting firm as the receptionist and they had it installed immediately on all the computers in the office. It was a big deal! I have come a long way from that time. Had my own websites, one was for selling guitar strings and the others were my four blogs. I still have one left.

Since I moved here five years, I have had to learn to do everything myself. My husband did all the computer work (the behind the scenes type of stuff) for me before. I have used YouTube videos to learn how to manage ubuntu (which is a Linux operating system). I figure it is not easy for a reason or everyone would be using it. I absolutely hate Windows and swore I would never use it again. Well, not sure about this older laptop but first I am saving my photos from the external hard drives and maybe the documents if possible. Then will figure out the problems I am having with ubuntu.

Frost is on the car windows in the parking lots, but the sun is shining brightly in my windows. That is always a good sign! I could not stand to wash my dishes last night. I should have eaten earlier and got them done when I could stand. This morning I am doing them right now. There was only a few but I hate getting up in the morning to dirty dishes in the sink. I think I had planned to do them before I actually went to sleep but I ended up watching tiny house videos and didn't get up again.

Yesterday, I made progress on the computer. I forgot what a nice machine that was. My biggest obstacle is getting over my hesitation to using Windows. But to use it for now I have to. I need to just make sure I can keep it going. Have to figure out what happened to it before. I can't seem to remember now.

that's what I did too.. I put all my pictures and documents from my laptop which is Microsoft.. onto External Hard-Drives and thumb drives after my o/h left..because I absolutely hate Windows.. and when it goes wrong it's a nightmare to sort out unlike the MAC so altho' I still use the Laptop on occasion ( it's very old and slow )...at least I know I won't be losing those important documents if windows goes wrong again... ''bluddy windows''..''bluddy microsoft''...is how my husband always described it.. and he was and is very technically minded.. but even he couldn't stand it..

I hate Microsoft computers with Windows. I switched over to Chromebook. But I don't know if Chromebook would work for what you're wanting to use it for.

Hope you're having a good day. I fell asleep watching Off Their Rockers. LOL!

I have not used Windows in years. In my old computer, it was partitioned off. So still in there but my husband was afraid I would not like Ubuntu (Linux). Now I am glad it is in there because for some reason I can not use any removable media on it. It shows it is there but will not mount it. So that is probably why my printer stopped working too. I will figure it out. Every fix I see says I need to have a computer with Windows to assist in this problem. Now I have it. I like the idea of having both of the computers up and running.

Yeah. I kept my Dell laptop but only use it for emergencies.

Today I went for a walk to the corner and back. I was going to get a cup of coffee at the coffee shop and bring it home to drink it but..........I forgot to put money in my change purse! Last time I did laundry I added time to my laundry card and didn't replace it. Well, another time.

Later after I had breakfast, I rode Jazzy to the Grand Union to get blackberries for my bunny boy. He will be happy to see them tonight. It is his bedtime treat. I bought a small steak for $3.46. It was marked down and said "short dated". It was good, had it for supper. The Grand Union is in the area of Norwich where a lot of low cost housing is and many people do not have cars. So they had to start offering cheaper cuts of meat in small packages. They have them in the meat cooler 5 for $24.99. It is a good deal but I didn't need that much. I am trying to make sure I get enough protein so when I see a good deal on beef.......especially steak, I grab it.

Kitchen is clean now and all I have to do is to make coffee for morning.

Here is a picture I took in the park today.

I went to sleep early last night. My walk to and from my hair salon was hard. Not sure why but I survived it anyway. Today I was not planning on going out unless I just took a walk to get out. Then I remembered I needed to get some cash from my son's account for him. Since I have discovered that I can drive "Jazzy" right up to the ATM in the drive-up at the local bank (that is close to me, about 2 blocks away), I will do that. He does get fees with using an ATM from a bank from the bank and his credit union. But he wants it no matter what and that is how I have to do it.

The week-ends for me always seem to end up being chore heavy. I don't mind though and get a lot of things done. Today I am going to do laundry and hopefully, get some stuff done in my storage locker. I have a bunch of afghans that I am going to store in the big Rubbermaid containers down there. Eventually I will wash these afghans at the laundromat instead of our laundry room. Our washers always get unbalanced and won't open if you wash blankets or heavier items.

In between chores, when I take my sit down breaks, I will be working on the computers. I am going to reinstall Ubuntu in the old computer but keep the partition. That way if I need to use Windows for something I can do it. I find that working on these computers and learning new things about them is actually good for me......and my brain. I had been coloring like crazy and even though I find it a soothing activity and a time for thinking, I don't think it makes me use my brain so much.
