Reflections of My Life

Well we are making it through another new transition here in my apartment building. New owners. New manager. No maintenance man at the worst time of year for that. Our maintenance man quit suddenly giving no notice last week. It is distressing because we all counted on him. He did a good job and would get back to us almost immediately. I think they gave him too many buildings to take care of and it had become stressful for him.

Today I am vacuum packing all the meat I bought and going to get started on it as early as possible. I have the most energy early in the day. So leave the computer work for afternoon today. I have a blog post I have been working on but need to get some pictures to include and then I can publish it.

I did make a dent in my storage locker yesterday. My cousin took a few things and that really helped a lot. I will probably have more stuff for her soon. I keep wondering why I had so much stuff that I can just give away. Must have bought stuff or brought stuff when I moved here. Now just want it all gone. Sometimes I buy something then I don't use it or need it later on. Oh well, that is how it is.

Marcie's post about buying a Barbie for the Christmas family in need brought back memories for me. Good ones! Every year I used to buy a Barbie for one of those Christmas trees for needy children. They would have a tag on it with the child's name and age. I always chose a little girl and would buy a doll.

One year I was in FL at Christmas time and they had a tree at the mall with decorations made out of clothespins made by nursing home residents. The decoration had the child's name and age and you would buy the gift and give it to the people in charge. They would give you the decoration to keep and I still have mine. I put it on my tree (well no tree anymore) every year after that. That year Cabbage Patch dolls were hard to get in NY and at that mall in FL I was able to buy one for that little girl.

I suppose I chose a little girl instead of a boy because I didn't have a daughter. Just a son. It was a good memory of things I used to do in my previous life.

Today might be a crazy day here in my senior living apartment building. The food truck will be delivering boxes for food, 2 for each apartment and then a pick-up truck load to take to the next town to the other building (same owners as here). Nobody here can unload a small truck, let alone a big truck. The new manager did not know anything about this till someone went to her office yesterday to ask her about it.

So two people who live here are going to try to do it. They are the only ones who think they can do it. I don't know about that since I used to watch Rich (our maintenance man who just quit last week) do it and it is a heavy, hard job. They have to put the boxes in the community room and then everyone who wants it will go down and get their two boxes. I don't get it anymore since I cannot eat that type of food. It should be a good box for them since it is the Christmas box.

It never seems like Christmas to me unless we have snow. I lived in FL for a number of Christmas seasons, even as a child it didn't seem the same.
I know the feeling... We spend one Christmas in Texas in the South part by the Gulf. Granted it was a wee bit colder but NO SNOW... That was such a sad Christmas.

One other which was a total wash-out was in the Maritimes. It rained for a whole week.

But the worst storm was in FEB 95. Nearly 12 feet of snow ❄️❄️❄️. It was sickening. Here we get on average three snowfall on the West coast of Scotland... So, it's either white or black and frankly I don't miss shoveling all of that anymore.

Over the last decade it's a 50-50 situation, sometimes I miss it and other times I don't.

Just wish it was easier to go where the snow is for some serious X skiing, that must admit I do miss as it was such a great cardio workout 😀

That is one reason I chose not to own a car when I moved here almost six years ago. When we get snow everyone has to go out and clean off their cars and move them to another location so the plow can do our parking lot.

Food truck got unloaded and as it turned out there were some others (managers from the other buildings) who came to help. Our building only had 18 people who wanted the food. It is just not the best of foods unless you eat a lot of carby foods. The rest of it went to the other two buildings.

I have been on a cleaning streak. I changed around the shelves in my refrigerator. Since my shoulder has been hurting, I had a hard time getting the ice tea or water out of the refrigerator. I moved them down to a lower level, had to move the shelves to do this. It is perfect! I should have done this a long time ago.

Listening to the Allman Brothers Band, a decade of hits. Brings back a good memory I have of going to Gregg Allman's concert in Binghamton around 1973 or so. I used to be friends with this guy, Marty, a DJ at the local rock station. I would go there when I got off work and he would let me pick the records to put on the air. His roommate was another dj and he had the biggest collection of records I had ever seen. Just about anything you wanted to listen to. I would call him every night after I got home from work and request Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.

One time Marty called me and asked if I wanted to go see Gregg Allman at the Arena. Of course, I said yes. One thing he said was that he wouldn't be there but he would leave my ticket at the ticket window. So I went alone. Great seats! I look around and everyone sitting around me is a dj or works at the various radio stations in our area. Needless to say, it was a really fun night and the music was outstanding.

Now I wonder whatever happened to him.

I judge my Lymphedema by the swelling in my ankles. It has been down quite a bit lately. I think along with eating the right foods, getting some type of exercise (which is usually walking but I also use the passive leg exerciser now since I put it under my table) and putting my feet up (on a footstool) several times through the day is what is improving it. Most important of all is to keep wearing the compression stockings. It will never go away but there are ways to live with it.

My therapist said mine is mild (for now) and I can keep it that way as long as I can stick to this plan. I have decided not to go back to the therapist because quite frankly after a few sessions with her I can take care of it myself.

A YouTube channel I follow, Keto Revelation, has had some really good information and I am glad to be following her and in her fakebook group. This month she is using regular cookbooks that she got from a thrift store and making over recipes to being keto friendly. I have been doing for a long time myself but hadn't done any lately. So this morning I looked at a southern cookbook I have on my kindle and wrote some recipes out making some changes from the bad ingredients. Can't wait to try them.

Sun is out today so maybe I will take a short walk sometime today. I will see.

@katlupe . You're so resourceful! I love how you convert your recipes to suit your own requirements.
This cookbook might give you even more ideas. Maybe you should go on YouTube with your recipes; call it "Keto-Kat". 😀

Glad you're taking good care of the lymphedema. Don 't forget the brushing you told us about.

Enjoy your sunshine it's cloudy here.

I thought I was tired out from shopping yesterday..........that was nothing! Today I started the day by opening the boxes that came from Amazon yesterday and putting my supplies away. I was planning on vacuum packing the meat that I bought yesterday but instead my cousin called and her and her husband were on their way to pick up the cedar chest. I also gave her my old Cuisinart ice cream maker (which is not old at all only used about 4 times), the thermos cooker and a pole lamp.

I love the way it looks without the cedar chest along the wall. I put the high back chair in that spot but not where it blocks the heater. I do not want the heater blocked at all because I want the floor to be warmer for my little bunnyboy. It also opens up the view of the curio cabinet which before you could not see at all. It has a blue light in it and I have it on right now and it looks pretty. I put a board on the vanity stool and now it is a stand with the lamp on it. Looks much nicer in that corner now.
Thanks for sharing your news, @katlupe! I feel I have known you all my life! There are so many good things that you do for others - your son, bunny, etc. that it warms my heart to read your writing. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! I just forget to mention the dry brushing and using the magnesium oil. If you are lacking magnesium the oil will make you itch. Now mine does not do that because I am getting enough magnesium in my food, electrolytes and daily minerals. It took awhile.

Yesterday was like a spring day. I did not get outside though. Today I will be walking out to the dumpster so will be at least going that far. Unless I decide to take Jazzy to the Grand Union. I would like to buy more Zevia. Then I need to write out the Christmas cards. Our building is all decorated. Inside only. Each floor does their own. I put my snowman outside my door along with Mr. & Mrs. Claus. That is about it for me and Christmas. I don't do anything else for it.

Joe & Rachel from 2krazyketos made macaroni and cheese substituting shrimp for the macaroni and I want to try that. Our stores always have those frozen bags of shrimp on sale and I usually get about 3 meals out of them. I have added shrimp to the grocery list for next time I shop.

They also had a new recipe on their channel for making your own coffee creamer. They made a peppermint one for the holiday season using Keto Chow's newest seasonal flavor. It makes your coffee be a peppermint mocha flavor and I think it might be good. I am waiting for my delivery from Keto Chow this week and I have peppermint flavor in it. I will be trying that though I have other flavors I could try to do. Not sure about the caramel pumpkin spice because the nutmeg in it has been affecting me........sad about that because I love it. Digestive issues with it.

I did rest up yesterday so today I am doing laundry. Probably more toward afternoon. It rained all day yesterday so I never got my garbage out to the dumpster. I have to do it today even though we had snow. The driveways are clear though as the snowplow was here this morning.

I love how my apartment looks since I gave my cousin the cedar chest. Now I am considering the same thing with the vanity. I have had it since I was 13 but now I only use it for storage. And the big mirror. the mirror needs to be replaced though. Has lots of scratches. I am thinking of getting one of those standing mirrors which can be moved easily. It helps too to be able to move around with the walker easier.

Lately the people upstairs have been so noisy. It doesn't normally bother me but this is nonstop moving around on their floor. I am not sure if it is their small dog but if so, he never sleeps. Last night it was like "STOP already! I can't take it." Maybe it was just me but also a guy from downstairs was up here outside the elevator talking to the new lady on the other side of me. They were out there talking and laughing real loud for at least TWO hours! I looked out a couple of times and they said, "we're still here." I wanted to tell her to invite him INSIDE her apartment but she has a boyfriend who lives with her so he was probably there. Neighbors......

I didn't do my laundry..........see I shouldn't write on here that I am going to do it. Maybe tomorrow. Anyway Rabbit's Christmas present got here and it is 6 different chew balls. I gave him one and he immediately started chewing it. So he is a happy camper today....

I did go out to the dumpster. When I came back I stopped in to see the manager and gave her a Christmas card. We talked a bit and then I went off to hand out the rest of my cards. Three floors of walking was enough exercise for me unless I count the housecleaning chores and now cooking my 2nd meal. Chicken for supper. I so hate the dark time of the year.

Today I need to get Rabbit more spring mix, bananas & berries. I may have to use Instacart but if the sun dries up the water on the sidewalks I can go on Jazzy. I hate to get my wheels and underneath it wet because of rusting. But sometimes I have to do it anyway. First though I am taking a shower as soon as I finish this cup of coffee. Then laundry. If the sidewalks dry up it might not be for a few hours so I can squeeze in my laundry.

I still have computer issues so still trying to work on that. I looked at those chromebooks and wondering if having one as a back up computer would be worthwhile. I cannot be without one since I pay all my bills online. I do everything online, even all my shopping. I would be so lost if my computer fails on me..........though I have had more than a few just give up on me in the past.

I might download the newest Ubuntu onto one of my flash drives and reinstall it in both of these computers. But I am afraid of losing everything like personal files. I have been trying to get them on my external hard drive but even that is filling up fast. It is a learning experience since now I have to rely on myself for everything.

Maybe you could dry the wheels with a blowdryer?

Good morning @katlupe .....another recommendation on the chromebook here, I do everything online with mine, I've used this one for about 6 years with no problems, I have problems trying to print wireless is the only thing but I do very little printing and I've just not taken the time to tackle the problem. Have a good day with your chores today!
