Reflections of My Life

MANY of these managers be it management companies or individuals are money thrown away as residents in one way or another wind up doing what these useless managers are getting paid to do .

This has been my experience .
I have been here seven years this month. Have had several managers. Some good some horrible. One of the problems with managers here is that they have to manage two other buildings in two other towns. Not close together. Now the present manager is only managing two buildings. This one and the one in the next town over but it is also the town she lives in. So I think that is why she likes to stay there and avoids coming here.

Today feels cool but good. I opened the window and the breeze is nice. Rabbit is enjoying it and moved closer to the window. I will do a little bit of cleaning but nothing major. I think I am going to make a Philly Cheesesteak casserole for my meal today. Using shaved steak, dehydrated onions and peppers and sharp cheddar cheese. I now do not buy fresh vegetables because for one thing it is hard to get anything that tastes good or lasts very long (in the store). I have been very happy with the dehydrated ones I buy online.

Even the fresh spring mix in the plastic containers that I buy for Rabbit are not very good. I am sorry that I have to feed him that but when I moved here I had no choice. I have to pick through the container every time I buy a new one. Which I will be doing this morning. They pack it with beet greens and spinach. He won't eat those and they are not good for him. Oxalates is high in both. Sometimes there are a lot in the container and sometimes not. The last one I got had a handful. This new one is packed full of them. Not good for his kidneys (or anyone else's either).

So far...........neighbors are quiet!

Just having my coffee with the cool morning air drifting through my open window. I love the silent morning and then one bird will start gently chirping. Maybe to wake the others. Then the others join in. Such a sound! It warms my heart and reminds me of those wild birds at my house who made my day every morning. If you can imagine living in the middle of acres of forest with just the birds and wild critters for neighbors. For years it was my life until I had to move on. I suppose moving on is just a normal part of the life process.

Maybe that is why I don't mind paying for conveniences. I lived so long without them that now I appreciate them. I may not have a lot of money but I always write the cost for convenience into my budget. I remember trying to make out a budget for groceries back then and saying, "I have cut everything out and there is still no money for groceries." I could never buy things in bulk to get a lower price. Did not have a freezer and had to can everything. Now everything is so easy and I am thankful every day.

That is why I try to stay positive and enjoy my life. Yes, there are problems with this apartment building (due to the management of it) but I refuse to let it rain on my parade. I still love my apartment and do not want to move from here. It is perfect with having my son living upstairs in his own apartment. We are close but not too close. I figure management companies will come and go. Everybody complaining about it just makes their lives miserable. Hopefully the new switch for the elevator will come today and be installed. I wanted to be able to walk outside again.

I bought them from Amazon. The dehydrated mixed bell peppers are from Mother Earth Products. The dehydrated onions are from McCormick which I bought in the 3 lb. size.
Thanks,

I’ll check it out!

I don’t cook enough to keep fresh and frozen only seem to work in certain things.

I’ve been buying small bottles of dehydrated onions, garlic, etc… but they don’t last very long.

That is why I try to get the larger sizes. The peppers were not available on Amazon in very large sizes so I got it in a smaller size. 9 ounces for $13.74. $1.53 an oz. Not really a great price but I got it anyway. Emergency Essentials is where I used to buy a lot of bulk foods. Even eggs, meats, vegetables, etc. But not doing that here. Not saying I won't do it in the future but who knows?

This is such a positive statement, @katlupe! I loved what you said about listening to the birds. I am like that, too. Today I have my windows open and can hear them chirping. They bring me joy.

The elevator repairman is here working on the elevator. Putting in a new switch I am sure. I have a grocery delivery coming at 2 so hope he is done by then. Or I will have to have the groceries brought up to my floor by the delivery person.

It is raining now but earlier a bunch of people were outside. Then a fight erupted with the two women who live next door to me. It became physical and I hope that ends it.

I am trying to catch up on some paperwork...........ugh! Hard to believe I worked in two different accounting offices in my previous life. Paperwork & phone calls I hate!

Elevator repairman just left.......keeping my fingers crossed that it is fixed and running!

With so much going on around you …. I just wanted to say that you are such a good Mom to Rabbit! .. I enjoy reading about his daily care and such. ❤️

I hope so too!

Oh my, the ladies next door had a physical fight? How did it break up? Hope no one was injured..... so I can laugh.

Rainy here too.
🌹
I am not sure. My neighbor who is the tenant of that apartment (the woman fighting with her is her son's girlfriend) was knocked down on her butt......hard! I know she is a serious diabetic and has back issues (being operated on this month) but she got back up and went back to yelling at the other one (who is much taller and bigger than her).

What I could not believe is that her son stood by the ramp and watched for a long time before he went over to try to stop it. There were other guys there and not one of them stepped in. These guys are not the seniors who live here but the younger ones. If someone started yelling or fighting with me and my son was nearby............he would be right there protecting me. Instantly. He is quite protective of me.

I recall how her son and his gf moved in. Hope they move out right away!
Her son seems strange not stepping in immediately like your good son would.

OMG....really ?.. are these young women ? ..I just always imagined that ( aside from your son) that your building was for older people...

The woman who has the apartment is the same age as my son, 55. The son and his girlfriend are probably in their late 20's. This apartment building is for seniors and disabled (which can be any age but no children).

I am waiting with anticipation this morning to see if the manager comes to work or not. It is not a day she is scheduled to work, but she has work to do. Rents need to be paid! Re-certifications need to be completed! There are three empty apartments that need to be rented! How can this company survive with no one doing the work involved? It worries me that I am dependent on such a low level company.

I am in a perilous position now due to my son living upstairs in his apartment. It is the perfect setup for him and me. But if the building gets closed down we have no where to go. Sure, I could move into another HUD building (they have waiting lists but if you put your name on the list as others who live here have done at other buildings, your name comes up in just a few months) but what about Jeff? Not having a car made this the best apartment location for me.

I would not really want to live in a van, though that is one thing I could do. I hate to drive. I hate the cost of motor vehicles. The repairs. Everything about them. So not even considering that type of life. It does not look like a good life to me. Even when they try to portray it as such.

kat,

I doubt that they would close your building but if they do they will most likely work to relocate the existing tenants rather than risk legal entanglements and public outcry.

It never hurts to have a loose plan in the back of your mind but I think that everything will be fine.

Not trying to highjack - I run a 25 pound bag of onions through the KitchenAid cuber, flash freeze them on wax paper in thin layers and freeze them in one cup portions. Always ready, work great for all cooked applications. I hand cut and slice bell peppers. They even grill nicely for fajitas or omletts.

I used to process almost all my own food. Now I pay for the convenience. I need it easy. Right now I am in the process of getting some help. The dehydrated ones work for me as I don't really eat them that often. I follow a ketovore food plan so very light on veggies.
