Reflections of My Life

All the work I have been doing in my home has paid off. It feels cozy in here tonight. I am having a nightcap of lemon ginger tea with a scoop of collagen. Just making that area the bedroom again has improved the feel of my small space. The new light is awesome! That corner used to be so dark and now it looks so different. Feels different too. I hope you all have a good night!

This morning feels quite cold. Had to turn my heat up a bit. This morning I am making my way through a paper pile that came from my files. I can't wait for this job to be finished so I am going to work on it all day. My file drawers use to feel so heavy that I could hardly open and shut them. Now they are so much lighter. I love it! What a difference it made.

As meat has become more expensive some people started buying those canned meats. They used to be a cheap alternative as well as a good prepping item to stockpile for emergencies. Foods like Spam, canned chicken, beef, turkey, pork & others. Hormel was a company that had some good options like roast beef or canned ham. They are not cheap anymore. I don't usually use these types of food but do like to have some put away in case we lose our power here. Which would be rare.

On Walmart's site a 5 ounce can of Hormel smoked chunk can is $6.49?????? It says $1.38 an ounce. The only ones I have stockpiled for emergencies now is Keystone ground beef & pork and a couple cans of Spam. That is enough for what I needed.

I have a supply of various Keystone canned meats: Beef, Ground Beef, Chicken, Turkey and Pork. The "Beef" is cooked like roast beef and is actually pretty good. Same with the Ground Beef. The only other ingredient is salt. When you open the can, you will see the fat has congealed and is easily spooned out. Good Stuff, IMO.

a 28 oz can of keystone beef is $12.18 here.
great value brand has smaller cans of stuff for $4 or less unless you order more than one can. i usually get the gv brand. a 28 oz can of keystone ground beef is almost $11 here.
Keystone brand is just beef and salt I think. It is a good brand and I like it. It makes more than one meal. They do sell a 14 oz. can too but I usually get the larger size.

I’ve never heard of ground beef in a can.
I used to can it myself. Sometimes in chunks and other times ground. I did not have a refrigerator for over 6 years so I would buy meat in bulk at a restaurant supply store and take it home and can it immediately. It was very good.

This is what home canned beef looks like. The fat is on top. I also canned any left over broth.

I woke up this morning to hearing snow removal going on. Since I live in the center of downtown I usually hear any activity going on. Trucks unloading at the restaurants' and bars' back doors. Workmen working on a building up the block that are having major work done. The garbage truck emptying the dumpsters. Snow plowing, snow blowers, salting driveways and parking lots and scraping ice from our ramp and outside stairs. So I knew before I got up what the day was going to be like.

Yesterday I got back to doing my walk around my hallway. I could barely finish the last lap but I did two. I made myself do it. If you remember I was doing 9 laps at one time. About 200 feet a lap. I usually start doing it then stop for some reason. I get myself into a rut of telling myself my knees hurt too much to do it. I need to get past that. I figure I have to keep trying.

I have been researching improving eyesight after 70. One of the things I found out is that more light is needed. So when people don't use much lighting due to their electric bills that could be hurting their eyesight. My friend does not turn on more than one light in her apartment at night. It always looks like she went to bed early because no light ever shows out her windows. I am thinking of ordering another floor lamp like the one I got for my bedroom. The little lamp on my bookcase behind me does not light up my computer and table very well. I could get a new stronger bulb but the floor lamp is way better.

Off to make another cup of coffee...........

Really! I have noticed that the last couple of years. Try to read the instructions on something with very tiny print, I take it to a sunny window so I can see it, oftentimes with a magnifying glass. I thought it was just me, although I remember seeing other older folks doing the same thing.

Thanks for posting this.

take a pic of it with your smart phone. then you can pinch to enlarge it and read it.

The maintenance man came today to put a new bulb in my overhead light. He could not get the glass globe off to put the bulb in. He tried really hard but not too hard so as not to break it. He will be back tomorrow. I will move my computer and put something down over the table just in case it does break. It has been changed before and there was no problem getting the globe off. Hope he can do it tomorrow.

It is a busy day for me today. But the sun is shining and that always puts me in a good mood. I quickly got my shower out of the way in case my son is knocking on my door. He comes at all hours..........well not after dark. With the sun shining I thought it might get him up early. He is a confirmed night owl. Has been like that since a child. Never wanted to go to bed. When he got older, a teen, I went to bed before him or his father. They shared that trait.

My floor lamp is being delivered today so if the overhead light cannot be fixed today it won't matter (but eventually I want it working). I always wanted a floor lamp for this spot but I didn't think the base of it would fit in that small spot. And I could not have any wires on the floor or within bunny distance. When I got this floor lamp for the bedroom I loved it. The base is not very big and it working with a remote is a big plus. Another plus is that it didn't cost that much money. $37. plus tax.

I ordered groceries from Walmart last night. Some for Jeff too. I had $149. left on my UHC card! I had used it a few weeks ago so I didn't think there was that much. Of course, I had some rewards on it too. The rewards don't expire but the amount they put on it every month does if you don't use it by the last day of the month. I always make sure to use it. I am very thankful for that card. Usually I shop from a list even when I shop online. Last night I did not. So hope I got what we needed.

kat I don't make a list anymore. When I run out of something or need something I just go ahead and add it to my Walmart shopping cart. Then on grocery day it's all there and I can just go through and pick my substitutions. Makes it easier and a little faster for me.

I like my lists. I have been writing them out forever. Also I order groceries for Jeff so I don't want to mix his stuff in with mine.

My light is fixed. What the maintenance found and showed me was the wiring had turned black.......from burning????? So he ended up working on it most of the day. Went to Lowes and got stuff and came back and did both of the lights. Made them both safe. I did smell an electrical smell a few times but I thought it was my new mug warmer so unplugged it. So glad he was able to find that and fix it. I feel safer now.
