Refraining from current events topics

Wot's all this then?

I like everyone on this thread, particularly @dseag2, who is a favorite, but I did think it was kind of negative of him to call out a couple of very nice people for being negative.

Aren't we all a mixture of positive and negative? Even Mr. Rogers claimed to have had moments of irritation.

I was wanting to ask the same question Lavinia asked, because I was afraid my crankiness on a recent Hot Topic's thread was the cause. If so I want to apologize.
If you read my post completely you would have seen that it had nothing to do with anyone's responses on the topics. I thought all the chats were actually great. What I explained in my post is that because of the nature of the topics in most news and that I talk widely about these subjects already with my son and some of my friends here at home the last thing I really want to do is come on here and rehash it all again. That is what I explained in my original post.

Since I began here approximately a month ago one of the main reasons I joined was when I read there was a zero politics policy on the site. I decided from the start to refrain from any of the Covid 19 threads and I stuck to that as well as any of the vaccination threads as well. I did however get involved in many of the current events topics brought up in the last month and honestly the chats have been great and I actually have acquired much from all of them. The problem though as being a History teacher my entire career, I love talking about this stuff and find myself talking about this with my son quite often and also some of my friends here at home. It is becoming the last thing I want to chat about when I come on here. I am not saying I have not enjoyed chatting with all of you over these topics, but I find myself talking about the same topics in many instances and many of these topics are quite overwhelming so they are not the easiest to discuss. So I have decided from this moment further that I will not be engaging in the current event topics.
Seems like a good idea, if it suits you of course, (I must admit I thought when I read the thread title it was about trying to avoid some of the depressing news bulletins we all know about, and I'm trying to "ration" myself over!). :)

"A couple of nice people?" LOL!

The problem here is I believe is there are some people that like to make a mountain out of a mole hill. I stated my career was as a High School History teacher and these sort of subjects do interest me quite a bit so I spend a lot of time watching them unfold and talking about them. Like I said in the original post I spend each day talking to my son about these subjects and some friends and honestly I don't feel the need to come on here and rehash the subjects again and again. After awhile it starts getting a bit stale. Some people took it as why in the hell would I have to even mention this. Well it is pretty simple, because I damn well felt like it and also because seeing that I was a regular contributor to those threads and then all of the sudden I disappeared, I wanted to give my reasoning for it. It was nothing more than that and some people felt the need to blow it up into well that I just might be trying to seek attention or something like that which I find to be ridiculous. Well those people have definitely gotten my attention and now I know how to handle there responses.

Signe I’m new here, but I’ve noticed you add a lot to this forum. I respect you being a strong woman and survivor! Keep posting what’s on your heart and don’t pay attention to the caddy remarks!

First off I certainly did not see this thread turning into the charade it has turned into which I feel is quite ridiculous. Secondly, I posted this thread mostly and simply because I felt like it and since I post regularly on those topics and would no longer be doing so I wanted people to understand the reasoning behind it.
I think that is totally fair👍. This is a place to voice our feelings, thoughts, opinions...this was yours and good for you for expressing. Now of course we need to wrestle with the question of ...was it ok for some to criticize your post? Was that not their feeling, thought, opinion? Or was it too rude? Personally I like to know what everyone thinks and feels and watch my reaction to their comments. One can learn a lot about themselves that way:D I do wonder if anyone agrees with me...

I agree with you. Everyone has the opportunity to voice their own opinions on any subject. I feel this subject was so straight forward and just so simple and just me explaining why I wouldn't be posting any longer on topics that I once was a regular on. The negative posts basically towards me and they pretty much suggest that I was seeking more out of the post than I actually was in that I was seeking attention from posting it. Well if by posting those negative comments it surely got more attention to this thread than I certainly thought it would when I made it in the first place.

I just feel those who made those comments made a mountain out of a mole hill as I stated before I posted this simply because I felt like it and I just wanted people to be aware of the reasoning behind why I was refraining from those topics as I was a regular contributor. It should never have been blown up like this which I find ridiculous.

I have to admit there is "rough and tumble" on some threads, (and I've been guilty more than once of probably causing it, - I apologised for being in a bad mood when posting earlier today/late yesterday, "though I'm not usually a moody type" I feel, but we all obviously have bad days!).:whistle::giggle:

I certainly sympathize. I really do the same. My wife is involved with media and I used to work in the non-profit world. Often find the news to be a great burden. I go back and forth, between watching it for awhile, then staying away from it.

If you like history, here's a bit of trivia. There are dead Hessians buried in our town. This town was called Connecticut Farms during the Revolutionary War. And there was a battle here. The Hessians were quite hated because of their brutal behaviors in war. So, they buried them in a mass grave. That cemetery is still around.

In 1958, a British royal military society from Canada, came down and re-interred the bodies in a military ceremony.

@Matrix I am asking for this thread to be closed. It has gone from what I thought would be a very simple explanation as to why I would not be posting on the Current Event/ News Topic threads any longer to something totally way off topic. So as the original poster of the thread I am asking you to close this when you get a chance. Thank You.
