For DW and myself, our blood families are geographically distant, though we keep in touch. Our important relationships include friends in our area, and people that we like with whom we're associated through community involvements. We also have a concern for our immediate neighborhood. Personally, having been an SF member for a while now, I also consider the people on this site a kind of family that I belong to.
At the moment, we're about 10 days into a regional disaster, a 'complex' of forest wildfires, that to this point has come very near some residential areas, though so far has done minimal damage to buildings. But we've been breathing smokey air, and evacuation orders have forced at least 1500 people to leave their homes.
It's coming closer to our own property. The local authorities & wildfire-crew offices issue periodic updates. Friends keep in supportive touch by phone & internet (email, text, etc). Just going to add that I welcome and appreciate any prayers, compassionate vibes, and the like — that people feel like sending this way my friends & neighbors and our homesites.
