If you have a slice of lemon in your drink or your glass of water while out you might want to go without it. It seems that that slice of lemon may have been out in the open in a bar and touched by an employees and, therefore, carrying germs that could cause intestinal disturbances. This according to a recent study by laboratory pathologists...

Wife always orders a lemon with her water. I never do. I'm even scared to drink out of the restaurant glasses sometimes. Had heard before that the lemons in water/tea could be contaminated by human handling practices.

Unsanitary practices happen in the best of restaurants, it's just a chance you take, just like buying foods in the store that might be contaminated by a packer/handler who had poor hygiene. I don't go out to restaurants often, but when I do I wouldn't let these minor worries spoil my meal. Like Grumpy said, the glasses and utensils can also be dirty, etc. I think I'm pretty immune to a lot of this stuff, I don't fret much over salmonella scares, etc. Even eat some quality ground beef raw sometimes with sea salt, before I make burgers.

Someone said here that the dirtiest thing in a restaurant is the MENU, because it is handled by so many other people.

Not to mention the ketchup bottles, salt & pepper shakers, jelly packets etc.
